**3D Printer Recommendations Needed!**
I’m diving into the world of additive manufacturing and need your help!
I’m looking for an inexpensive 3D printer (under $500) that’s perfect for a free and open-source software (FOSS) enthusiast like me.
Here are my criteria:
- **Budget:** Under $500
- **User-Friendly:** Easier to start with than a Voron 2.4
- **Hacking-Friendly:** I’d love the ability to tinker and customize!
What 3D printer would you recommend for someone just starting out? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments! Your insights will help me make the right choice. Thank you!

Found this cool paper on translating 3D models to crochet patterns - computing the crochet mesh as a graph (no AI here, just math).
I wonder if the authors would be willing to share their code with me to try it out In any case it looks actually useful! Crochet designers and compsci people, what do you think?

I also enjoyed visiting the Te Rua Makerspace at the library of the University of Canterbury
https://www.canterbury.ac.nz/study/library/library-facilities/te-rua-makerspace It was fascinating to hear how the library managers seek to engage and include the various parts of the university community. #3dprinting #sewing #fashion #makermovement #innovation
Crocheting another fake plant as if I don't have enough real ones
This guy is going to be a throw pillow! Crochet pattern is from epot.stitches on Instagram, and using chenille yarn
Beanie with short row crochet technique in progress - really enjoying learning this and discovering how the colors show up in the pattern!
That being said, I'm going to get even softer yarn next time. It's amazing how stiff crochet can feel, even with the ribs here softening it a bit.
Pattern is Spicy Beanie by Adriana Mihalca - very clearly written and with annotated photos for each step, highly recommended.
Crochet sierra plant coaster set is done!
This is my first crochet project in years, and probably the first one I've ever finished!
Design from madebykym_crafts on Instagram, you can find all the patterns on her page!
