Paul<p>The next book for <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://wandering.shop/@mcrscifi" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>mcrscifi</span></a></span> is Dragonflight by Anne McAffrey. Tim Panton<p>I've just finished "The Ministry of Time" for Tuesday evening's book club. The last chapters have some plot twists I'd love to have explained to me (even after a re-read) but that would involve spoilers for folks so _please_ finish it ! </p><p>See you then... </p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a></p>

penwing reads (they/them)Yes, spoilers, but mostly notes for bookclub
Paul<p>Yesterday at <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://wandering.shop/@mcrscifi" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>mcrscifi</span></a></span> we discussed Blue Light by Walter Mosley. It ended up being the lowest scoring book ever in the 15 years the club has been running, with 1.2 out of 5 Giant Murderous Butterflies (we pick something amusing related to the book as the scoring mechanism).</p><p>You can see all the books we've read, suggested and rejected, as well as stats, on our database, and new members are always welcome:</p><p><a href="https://mcrsf.xk7.net/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">mcrsf.xk7.net/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://social.xk7.net/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a> <a href="https://social.xk7.net/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a></p>
penwing (they/them)<p>After that, I could start - yet another - book in celebration of 25th May...</p><p>But I have something dreadful to finish for <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a> ... penwing reads (they/them)<p>Once more into the lesbian space necromancers book for <a href="https://bookwyrm.social/hashtag/11902" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mcrsf</a></p> <p>I hope I like more than the first chapter this time... Come on penwing, positive attitude...</p><p>(comment on <a href="https://bookwyrm.social/book/102134" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><i>Gideon the Ninth</i></a>)</p>
penwing (they/them)<p>Well, I found out where my Gideon book is (the Ninth, not the Bible) and, yeah, I need to go pick up a new one to re-read for <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a></p><p>Just finished the latest Wheel of Time episode and discovered that the book series Humble Bundle is not available in the UK (not sure when I'd get round to reading to be honest)</p><p>Looking forward to <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/Gladiators" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Gladiators</span></a> and <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/DoctorWho" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DoctorWho</span></a> tonight</p><p>In my vaguely tidy flat 8-)</p>
penwing (they/them)<p>And that's me done for the week... </p><p>And I have a vaguely tidy flat for once...</p><p>But i have the final episode of Yellowjackets S3, the final episode of The Residence and the next episode of The Wheel of Time to watch... </p><p>Oh, and I'll need to (re-)read Gideon the Ninth for <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a>... was not a fan on my first read... can I find it?</p>
penwing (they/them)<p>Hugo finalists are announced and my record is... Not great</p><p>* One novella (Brides of High Hill, Nghi Vo - so very very good)<br>* Most of (but not the recent release) the Southern Reach series<br>* One book of inCryptid series (which I enjoyed)<br>* 4 long form drama (Wild Robot or TV Glow for the win please)<br>* The 2 Doctor Whos in Best Short Form</p><p>One Novel is on the <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a> list for later in the year (Ministry of Time)</p><p><a href="https://seattlein2025.org/wsfs/hugo-awards/2025-hugo-award-finalists/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">seattlein2025.org/wsfs/hugo-aw</span><span class="invisible">ards/2025-hugo-award-finalists/</span></a></p>
penwing (they/them)<p>My copy of Gideon the Ninth is not in the "one day I'll get round to donating these" bags in my hallway... That means one of two things:<br>* For some, unknown reason I decided to keep it<br>* I've given it to a friend</p><p>Now, which is easier... Asking friends if I gave it to them, they still have it and can I borrow it back OR looking through books behind books on shelves and piles OR just buying a new one?</p><p>How I did not get on with lesbian space necromancers when I first read it is a mystery</p><p><a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a></p>
penwing (they/them)<p>We've had to swap some books around for <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a> meaning I've now got to reread Gideon the Ninth for next month... Which means in have to find it and it isn't in my "disliked it enough - but not evil enough to not want to let it into the wild - to stack in my hallway for donating" stacks...</p><p>Hoping I'm more receptive to it this time round - more receptive than "lesbian space necromancers? Hell yeah - inject that right into my veins" might be tricky though...</p><p>Loved Chapter 1 though...</p>
penwing (they/them)<p>Righteo, last volume of <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/Frankenstein" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Frankenstein</span></a> for <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a>... Only about 50 pages or so, but quite dense... Actually, let me get my other text to make a couple of comparisons...</p>
penwing (they/them)<p>So, I am about to start the re-read for <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a> on Tuesday. I'm back on the 1818 text this time (but shall miss the pretty of the Folio edition)</p><p><a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/Frankenstein" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Frankenstein</span></a></p>
penwing (they/them)<p>As predicted, I finished my book for <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a> which leaves me with the, still unanswered, question of what to <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/read" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>read</span></a> next...</p><p>I'm going to stick another episode of Time Team on and ponder and invite suggestions...</p>
penwing reads (they/them)<p><a href="https://bookwyrm.social/hashtag/11902" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mcrsf</a> read for Jan 2025. Plenty to think about</p><p>(comment on <a href="https://bookwyrm.social/book/970068" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><i>Swastika night</i></a>)</p>
penwing (they/them)<p>I should get up so I can get some breakfast going,...</p><p>I'm likely to finish my <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/mcrsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mcrsf</span></a> (book club) read (Swastika Night) soon (it's short) leaving me pondering: what next?
