And another recent one, my first collab with a collegae astrophotographer.

Captured under Bortle class 3 skies using remote observatory data in collaboration with Joep van der Heiden. This project totals a whopping 25 hours of integration, combining broadband (LRGB) and narrowband (5 nm Hα) to reveal the galaxy’s sweeping spiral arms and faint outer halo.

I made altazimuth setting circles for my DOB, azimuth on the base and an elevation circular segment on the elevation axis.

When I set up my DOB I scoot the base until Polaris in the center of the finder reads 0 deg azimuth. I level the base, not a real critical factor.

Then I use the following url app to let me see the az and el of the #Messier, #Herschel500, or #Caldwell objects. Then I just look up an object in the app and move the telescope to the indicated coordinates. it usually is close enough to get the object in my finder.
