Ele Willoughby, PhD<p>May 20 is World Bee Day. There are ~20,000 different bee species in the world. Here in Ontario we have at least 400 native bees (none of which are the honeybees, which are from Europe). Bees are key to pollination. According to the UN nearly 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species depend, entirely, or in part, on animal pollination, along with more than 75% of the world’s food crops. 🧵1/n</p><p><a href="https://spore.social/tags/linocut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linocut</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/printmaking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>printmaking</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/WorldBeeDay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WorldBeeDay</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/nativeBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nativeBee</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/sciArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sciArt</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/mastoArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoArt</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/pollinators" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pollinators</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/nativeBees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nativeBees</span></a></p>
WearyBonnie<p>I forgot to take a photo during daylight, oops. When I was gardening earlier I found a few bamboo tubes which had fallen out of my little tin can native bee nursery, which I thought no bees had ever used.. but one of the tubes was occupied!! See the little red resin filled one at the top left? 😍<br>I really need to get some new bamboo but the wild (weedy) patch I used to harvest from was removed by the council, and the other patches are harder to get to.<br><a href="https://disabled.social/tags/NativeBees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NativeBees</span></a></p>
