The Wireshark Certified Analyst certification has been available for just over a month and professionals have already started leveraging it to validate and elevate their packet analysis skills.

Designed by the Wireshark Foundation with input from core developers and engineering educators, this rigorous certification tests both protocol knowledge (Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP) and advanced troubleshooting using real-world Wireshark tools.

If you’ve been mastering packet captures and troubleshooting in the field, earning the WCA is a powerful way to showcase your expertise and stand out professionally.

Find all the details, objectives, and registration info here: wireshark.org/certifications

Ready to level up your packet analysis game? At SharkFest’25 EUROPE in Warsaw, you'll have the unique opportunity to learn Wireshark and Stratoshark from experts who build and use them every day.

Join hands-on workshops, deep-dive technical sessions, and interactive labs led by top professionals designed to sharpen your traffic capture, analysis, and troubleshooting skills. Whether you're a seasoned network engineer or emerging pro, this is where theory meets practical expertise.

SASE platforms that rely on MiTM ALL of your network traffic degrade your network security because all of your engineers have to either write code to get around it or disable ALL certificate validation in their code that accesses remote resources.

Also from what I know, when they "whitelist" a remote resource to allow internal clients to access something its just checking a box that says don't validate SSL for this particular remote resource.

I'm open to being wrong here, but I feel like products that break native certificate validation are bad.

But, I have done something that is super cool and I have nobody to share it with, and nothing to show for it besides some passing tests.

I just posted this controversial post on LinkedIn. Let the blocking begin. (It might happen here, too).

“Hi Bob, I hope that you're well! Do you do migrations? I’m looking for someone who can help me with migrating my <number redacted> employee company from <Cloud Provider Name Redacted> to <Cloud Provider Name Redacted> and help us avoid any gotchas, as we will still be hosting our production site on <Cloud Provider Name Redacted> for the time being. I'm realizing that paying an expert in this case will save time and opportunity. Thanks much!”

“<Name redacted>, thank you so much for thinking of me. In this instance, I’m not the right person for the job. I’d be the one to call if you wanted to migrate out of a commercial cloud service and maintain your operations in your own server room, or on your (owned) equipment in a private data center. You need someone with good knowledge of <Cloud Provider Name Redacted> cloud products. I studiously avoid an architecture that I consider fundamentally flawed.”

If the current chaos in the USA has caused you to realize that it’s important to keep local control of your IT operations, I’m the Network Architect/Engineer who can help you with that.

Anyone know how to get Comcast Business to assign a reverse DNS (PTR) entry to one of your organization's static IP addresses? I've now spent an hour or more on the phone with support and they still haven't done it (despite escalating it up to "advanced support" - then summarily closing the ticket). In the distant past, I remember making this request via email, but I can't find any way to do that now (since I'm again forced to deal with #Comcast).

Addendum: after opening a new ticket and pleading with the phone support rep, they escalated it and it got done. Still wish I could just email (I couldn't even see a way to open a new support request online).

Here’s some encouragement for people new to cybersecurity. You’re struggling right now, and that SOC Analyst job doesn’t pay as much as the sales hype led you to believe when you decided to get another cert. Maybe you’re wondering if this is all going to be worth it.

The money is there, but it’s not for beginners. You need to “pay your dues” and get some real-world experience. There really is some stuff that you can’t learn in a classroom.

The redacted Purchase Order shown in the picture is for the cybersecurity gig I posted about on LinkedIn a few days ago. This public utility on the East Coast is an existing customer (since 2010), so I made reservations for hotel, flight, and rental car on the basis of a phone call earlier in the week. The PO arrived Friday. This is for three days on site next week.
