The storm front passing the coast to the north-west is going to mostly miss us, today, which means we've had long patches of welcome sunshine and I was able get out into the garden to lay down some lawn-killing cardboard. Pulled some weeds, said hello to the many bees and ladybirds and inspected the lilly pilly seeds to see if they're sprouting (they are).

I've got two weeks to get through the last of my PhD edits, so instead of being out in the garden as I would like to be, I'm inside writing and revising. But I'm trying to persuade myself that this last push is worth it and once it's finished, the weather will be much more agreeable for gardening and I'll have zero weekend study/work commitments for the rest of the year. What a feeling.

(Boosts welcome / appreciated!)

Do any #uk #phd grads who were on student #visas know when their degree is "complete" such that they can apply for a 3 year graduate visa? I am finding it hard to find companies that want to hire me given the restriction of only being able to work 20 hours a week but the requirement (per gov.uk/graduate-visa) that "your education provider (such as your university or college) has told the Home Office you’ve successfully completed your course" is vague.

GOV.UKGraduate visaApply for a Graduate route visa if you’ve been on a student visa and want to stay in the UK to work - eligibility, fees, documents, extend, bring your partner and children.

I have great #PhD news to share: my first #research paper is now published!

Exploring the perceived benefits and potential challenges of the #AutonomousVehicle rollout in #Australia

It's open-access so that anyone can download: sciencedirect.com/science/arti

I honestly thought that I would have submitted my PhD thesis and had to wait for the publication to be approved (part of the requirement for completing my PhD), but it's the other way around, and I'm still revising my literature review!
