KrisHow do you make a project bag that's *actually* useful? 🤔<br> My MIL is an avid knitter (did you see those monstera mittens i posted? She made me those for Christmas 😭❤️) and her birthday is this weekend. I know she likes to knit in the car, so I wanted to make a project bag that is light, but has a couple of clever features. There's plenty of room for a handful balls of yarn, plus a pocket for needles, pencils, notes etc. I thought about how annoying it is when the yarn balls roll around in the car, or having to do colourwork and the threads get all tangled. The solution is a strip of webbing with channels for the different threads – but with snaps, so she doesn't have to cut the yarn to get them out. Added a bigger snap for closure and webbing straps for carrying. Hope she likes it!<br> Everything in this project is made with what I already had: the outer fabric is a thrifted Flåklypa bed sheet, the lining is a thrifted curtain, the snaps are leftovers and the webbing was tied around some kitchen towels I bought recently. <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/sewing?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#sewing</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/knitting?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#knitting</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/handmade?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#handmade</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/projectbag?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#projectbag</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/upcycle?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#upcycle</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/reusereducerecycle?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#reusereducerecycle</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/knittingbag?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#knittingbag</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/birthdaypresent?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#birthdaypresent</a>
Michelle MayIn 2021, a friend and I decided to learn "proper" sewing by doing a remote, two-person makealong of simple drawstring bags.<br> <br> The perfect thing to hold small knitting projects like socks, it turned out!<br> <br> Sadly her bag didn't work out quite as well due to the sewing machine inexplicably sewing backwards(?) and also a lack of interfacing. Mine was a kerfuffle of its own as the blog post we were following seemed to make less and less sense as it went on.<br> <br> But we persevered, and we overcame. And now we can *sort of* sew, hooray!<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Sewing?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Sewing</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Knitting?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Knitting</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/ProjectBag?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#ProjectBag</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/SockKnitting?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#SockKnitting</a>
Marie VC, PhD<p>I'm a seamstress of habits, I sew the same garments, my joy is working with good fabrics. Except that I have to modify my usual patterns to my current measurements and I haven't found the energy over the last few months.</p><p>To get back on track, a birthday present for a friend: a self-drafted project bag, with Liberty quilting fabrics.</p><p><a href="https://social.coop/tags/LibertyFabrics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LibertyFabrics</span></a> <a href="https://social.coop/tags/Quilting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Quilting</span></a> <a href="https://social.coop/tags/Sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Sewing</span></a> <a href="https://social.coop/tags/ProjectBag" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ProjectBag</span></a></p>
Lost (she/they)<p>My first <a href="https://cutie.city/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> project in 5 years: a <a href="https://cutie.city/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://cutie.city/tags/ProjectBag" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ProjectBag</span></a> with snap closures instead of a zipper that always snags my yarn. It’s translucent, so I can always see what project I’ve got inside it. I might add a pocket inside for the next one since I have so much scrap fabric. Hammering the snap closures was so stressful. You really have to swing hard! :blobfox_shocked: <a href="https://cutie.city/tags/diy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>diy</span></a> <a href="https://cutie.city/tags/handmade" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>handmade</span></a></p>
