Have you all seen GingerOfMods creation? Taking the #Sony #PlayStation #PSOne and...making it into a full functional console / crab?

'The PlayStacean'

I hadn't either, but now I have I'm glad.

I guess this is my fav combination of #3Dprinting and #gaming

A small buffer board I made for the #PSOne, to help me bring out the serial lines without connecting directly to the CPU lines.

I added the 3 pulldown resistors on top of the 'HC244 for lack of space (I want the bottom of the board perfectly flat), and they are meant to avoid having floating inputs when no dongle is connected.

Yep, finally replaced the two fuses and this #PSOne seems to work just fine.
I also added a #modchip, because why not.

I'll also have a small PCB printed that will add a buffer between the internal TTL serial signals and an external connector. Could come in handy in future.

And I also ordered the correct fuses to bring this #PSOne back to life.
Unearthed it yesterday from storage, not powering on, but turns out that it was just two SMD fuses and it works just fine with them replaced.

I had to bodge bigger ones as I don't have the correct ones in 0603 package, so I will just replace them when correct ones are available.

@nolen @derSammler I spent two hours (after finding an instruction vid) adjusting the resistor screw in the middle of the drive's ribbon cable, checking the resistance and aiming for about 0.77, and could not get consistent operation. It works here briefly, but it was not consistent.

I see ODEs require their own surface mount pin pulling, etc. and I'd rather not go in for that.

Is there no place that sells a pre-adjusted, proper replacement drive for this thing? I'd rather keep this, my orig PSX which I modded myself than buying another unit, hoping its drive lasts a while. Oy.

@derSammler I first installed this replacement drive about three years ago and was not able to get it to consistently work. At the time, in an IRC chat, a few people told me that I needed to calibrate the drive. I made a mental note to figure that out and that I would come back to it later. It's now later, but when I search around, I see absolutely no mention of calibration as part of the replacement process and I see nothing describing to any degree how to calibrate the drive. This made me assume that I somehow incorrectly recalled what was standing in my way, and I disregarded the notion that it needs calibrating. And here you are, to confirm what I recall from those years back.

Is there any resource at all that you can point me to? I have no clue how to calibrate this thing. Many, many thanks.

@sourdust

#ZXSpectrum the computer I never had and to this day I wish I did 😭 ( I actually never had a computer until 96 or 97 .. a pentium @120 )

Elite: the game I always wanted to play but never crossed my way. Not even the #NES version!

WipeOut 2097 ( was WipeOut XL when it first came out ) was 1 of the 2 games I bought with my #PSOne .. and it was impressive. I almost added it to my list but ultimately didn't because the original Wipeout had me prepared for what was coming.

Solid list!
