It's also a testament to just how good commercially available flight controllers and the open source flight control software that runs on them are. In this case it was Matek F411-mini and the truly excellent Betaflight (https://betaflight.com/), the same software that is used in most FPV quads, mine included.
Stabilising the Lego quad with its vibrating, flexing frame using those big, slow to respond motors and propellers would not be easy, but a Betaflight flight controller made it look like it was.
An impressive feat: making a flyable quadcopter/drone (mostly) from Lego.
The end result is a terrible quad, but given that the motors, propellers, structure and pilot are all standard Lego parts it's amazing that they were able to make it light and stiff enough to fly at all.
Recently ordered last year's DJI Air 3 model (not the 3s) with the intention of using drone footage in some of my YouTube running videos.
Debating on taking it with on vacay to the Dominican Republic in a couple weeks. I'd love to hear other people's adventures and misadventures traveling with drones.
The sillier the better.

Update on August 24, 2024 by #HaniAlmadhoun, Organizer
"Good morning and Salamat to everyone here! If you’re new to this page, welcome aboard! I would say we’re happy to have you, but none of us want to be helping under such brutal conditions. I’ve got lots of updates today, so bear with me, but first—I appreciate you all to the moon and back.
**Gaza Soup Kitchen Update:**
"The crew in #DeirElBalah is on the move. They were ordered to evacuate, and after a few days, they finally did. Just 60 yards from their location, an #airstrike tragically killed seven people, and the next morning, as they were packing and taking down their tents, a #quadcopter fired at the people. Despite these challenges, they relocated to #AlZawaydah and took over our smaller location, cooking for 250 families. The new spot isn’t far from the old one, but they may move again to the western edge of Deir El Balah, closer to the beach, which might be 'safer.' There’s also talk of them heading to #KhanYounes. We’ll have a better idea today, but know that they will continue cooking despite the displacement. If there’s a way to help, we better use it—and you, of all people, understand that. Even on their last day in Deir El Balah, the crew purchased sweets and handed them out to kids on their way out. That’s how dedicated they are."

A story in two photos
I found a cool place to fly though
Now that I have a quad that can record gyro data alongside video I've started to experiment with using Gyroflow to stabilise the footage.
Here's my first attempt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJlVVfc-sJA
Neither the flying nor the scenery are particularly interesting. This was only my second flight with the Caddx GoFilm 20, and I was just at my local soccer pitch. I made the video purely to see what the Moonlight's 4K video looked like after using Gyroflow on it.
Flight controller seems OK, but there are no lights on the VTX when I plug in a battery. Either the VTX itself is cactus (BAD) or its the cable between the flight controller and the VTX (less bad). It does look like it might have got pinched during the impact.
Ah crap. I stacked my new quad and the VTX has stopped working.
Time for some drone surgery.
Whoop whoop! My micro cinewhoop has arrived!
A bit bigger, heavier and less agile than my 2S, 2" toothpick but this will record high quality 4K video. I've got quite a bit of travel coming up over the next 6 months, including a number of spectacular locations, and I'm hoping to get some cool aerial footage.
One day I'll get these power loops through the goals right.
I've dusted off my adorable little FPV quadcopter for the first time in months.
First order of business, compulsively and unnecessarily updating all the firmware. I updated my FPV goggles, the video transmitter in the quad, the transmitter module in my RC transmitter, the OS of my RC transmitter, the RC receiver in the quad, and finally the flight controller in the quad. Everything seems to be working OK, but I do still need to update the electronic speed controllers (ESCs) in the quad.
The weather forecast is looking good for the weekend so I might actually get to fly it in a few days.
What's the best shotgun ammo for quadcopter drones?
