Olé Bokeh

So once again I was standing in front of one of my favorite motifs. My good old lonetrees. Just as the little protagonist in “The Sixth Sense” saw ghosts everywhere, I see these woody creatures everywhere. Well, you have to have some kind of talent.

Recently I've been thinking in color and so the squeaky yellow rape field was a welcome stage and the cloudy blue sky a welcome curtain. So I dived into the viewfinder and . . .

“Wait! Before you go back to exclusively reeling off your classic lonetree compositions, why don't you play with a bit with Bokeh! Ok. I'll give it a try and . . .“

And what can I say. This and other results bring a smile to my face. Maybe you'll like it too.

East Harbor Bridge Frankfurt - Commute - Osthafenbrücke Frankfurt - Pendeln

I tried to make a virtue out of necessity when taking the photo. On that day, I had set myself the task of photographing only with a 40mm fixed focal length. This was an unusual focal length range for me and, due to the lack of zoom, I had to constantly work my way through the scene and engage with the location more than usual.

At the end of this process, it was clear to me that I would no longer try to hide the bridge construction, but integrate it as a layer in the picture (the diagonal steel bands). this seems logical to me, as the striking bridge strongly characterizes the entire area through its architecture/construction and gives it a face.

as my pictures are usually quite reduced in content, i found it a bit difficult to like it at first. now i love it very much because of the different layers and my eye doesn't get bored exploring the scene. maybe your eye will enjoy it too.

This is a more properly exposed photograph of the same butterfly from a slightly different angle. The apparent double reflection is from a single pane of glass on the window, the one that aligns with the butterfly is on the outer surface of the pane that the butterfly is touching, and the one that seems a bit detached from the butterfly is on the inner side of the pane.

Coincidentally, this would be the way to establish pane thickness on an installed window. Just place a ruler on its outer surface and take a photo of it at roughly 45° angle. The difference in measures, divided by square root of 2 (cosine of 45°) is your glass pane thickness ;)

Three faces of the same #sunset, at 50, 100 and 600mm, recpectively (might not be uploaded and displayed in that order).

The colours in these images were obtained with a custom RGB tone curve profile in Picture Style Editor. I'm including a screenshot of it. Colours themselves weren't changed (in the profile), albeit the mentioned custom profile is based on "Landscape" one that Canon cameras have built-in and I do find the latter to not be linear about it on the colour wheel. But, the posted photos are, technically, straight out of cam! As meaningful as that is with digital cameras 😜

Playing with #handheld #long #telephoto #macro #photography. This photo shows the central, days old or younger budding on a young Chinese #cabbage (Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis) #seedling grown indoor under artificial light (6500K vegetative phase CFL).

In one hand #Canon #R6 with Soligor C/D 28-200mm f/3.8-5.5 MC Macro #vintage variable aperture #zoom #lens and also Soligor C/D7 macro focusing (with built-in helicoid) #teleconverter attached (shot at macro ratio of about 1:1.25, 56mm f/11 effective, 1/320s, ISO-400), in the other hand Godox V860IIC remote triggered flash unit with a white diffuser on. About 2kg worth of poorly-balanced equipment held in very awkward position. The things I do for your viewing pleasure!! 😜

I used a custom picture style I named "Winter UV Recover" that is meant to do, well, what the name says, but appears to do fairly well also with flash photography 🤷‍♂️
