NEW 30-MIN CUT: The groundbreaking documentary Majority Rules tells the story of how ranked choice voting revolutionized Alaskan state politics—and how adopting it across the country might just save American democracy.

I’ll be curious to see just how this strategy turns out: “Under New York’s system of ranked-choice (instant runoff) voting, a voter ranks candidates in order of preference. As the bottom choices are dropped, votes get reallocated. Mamdani and Lander urged voters to rank one of them first and the other second, depending on whom they preferred, to maximize progressive voting power and defeat Cuomo.”

they don't do anything because they won't be reelected if they do, because of our primary system and gerrymandering. we need FFV #RankedChoiceVoting everywhere to end the power of political parties, which the founders didn't want to be part of our system anyway. we now treat them like subcultures/teams and it's tearing our culture apart. they have also prevented a compromise on immigration.
game theory makes 3rd parties basically impossible in FPTP systems. I support FFV #RankedChoiceVoting cause it would fix a lot of problems and has some momentum but I know other systems are popular too.

@rchusid
Let’s use #RCV #RankedChoiceVoting and let them have their centrist party (). We can then have party 4 and even 5 to the left, and no one will worry about “wasting” their vote.
#Republicans oppose #RankedChoiceVoting because Republicans are against majority rule.
"Ranked choice voting jeopradizes ELECTION INTEGRITY!" Nope, it just gives voters more choices.
they didn't think we'd have political parties. so much of this is about a Congress with just enough people scared they can't make it through a primary if they do their civic responsibility.
we need #RankedChoiceVoting

Thanks Elon but we're good on billionaire and authoritarian parties. But if you want a real multi-party democracy, here are some things you should know.

Ranked Choice Voting
My take on this popular suggestion to improve democracy:

Here's a guide on ranked-choice voting for New Yorkers in advance of the upcoming primary: https://gothamist.com/news/what-to-know-about-ranked-choice-voting-in-nycs-primary-election-this-month
Major takeaway for those who are strongly against some candidate (like say, #NeverCuomo): Don't rank him at all, and be sure to rank all 5 slots. So put someone you like (I recommend #ZohranMamdani) as #1, and other acceptable options in 2/3/4/5. This pushes your disliked candidate down further than just voting for #1.
Yesterday, we canvassed at Naperville Farmer's Market! We're out in the community spreading the word about how ranked choice voting could make our elections more fair and democratic.
Did you know: We're collecting signatures to put a ranked choice voting referendum on the ballot in Naperville!
We don't need an #AmericaParty, Elon.
Political parties in the #uspol are how the will of the people gets captured. With fewer voters in a primary, big money & special interests & cult figures can dominate and win. Then in the general, the public is forced to choose who they hate the least, recognizing that the better candidate probably won't do what they promise anyway, but it can always get worse. Third parties can't survive the obvious logic of FPTP game theory.
FFV #RankedChoiceVoting.
An insightful, and kind of sobering, walk-through from Fairvote's Steven Hill of the possibilities and pitfalls for advancing #RankedChoiceVoting and #ProportionalRepresentation Electoral reform is hard. But worth it if we're going to preserve and build a better #democracy
(Not crazy about the AI art though. What the hell is even going on with those raccoons and bears and... lemur?)

Boston stepping up for pro-democracy reform with #RankedChoiceVoting!
The city joins NYC, SF, Portland, and many more cities in enacting this RCV, which gives voters more power and more choices at the ballot box. Let's get this in Chicago next!
THANK YOU to the co-sponsors of SB2004: State Senator Graciela Guzman and State Senator Laura Murphy!
Although SB2004 didn't pass during the state's regular session, we're continuing to work on this legislation that will secure our right to choose #RankedChoiceVoting for our cities.
@enobacon But #RankedChoiceVoting even #IRV is always better than plurality-winner. If pointing out that #RCV is imperfect means we have to “ban RCV,” we’re going to be stuck with something worse.
