RSVP at FairVoteIllinois.org/events to join our Statewide Meeting this Thursday! We'll discuss the win in Skokie, our current focus cities, the statewide bill, and some federal RCV work. Join our April meeting to see how you can help move RCV forward.
Photos from the Hands Off rally in Chicago yesterday. We spoke with politically engaged Chicagoans about how we're working to bring ranked choice voting to this city!

"Five states have banned #rankedChoiceVoting in the last two months, bringing the total number of #Republican-leaning states now prohibiting the voting method to 10"
we want 3rd parties
we want to vote our conscience rather than endless dreary strategy
we want #RCV
which we get how
by voting #democrat, and pushing them on the issue
rather than doing nothing but whining
@the5thColumnist @grumble209 @GutterPoetry @todymotmot @wendinoakland @profdc9 @zakalwe
it does
with the caveat #canada has #parliamentary #democracy, which lends some stability to 3rd parties, while the #usa #fptp nonparliamentary system means 3rd parties can never be stable
#australia meanwhile is laughing at both the usa and canada, since they have parliamentary *and* #rankedchoicevoting #rcv (what they call preferential voting)
“This is ridiculous”: Ranked choice voting is the greatest step forward in U.S. elections since the Australian ballot. (Google it.) But #RCV comes with a downside. You mark your first, second, third, etc. choices … and then wait to see who won. And wait. And wait. Will we learn the results of Tuesday’s Oakland CA mayor’s race … by Friday evening? Or will it take weeks longer? https://www.sfchronicle.com/eastbay/article/oakland-mayor-race-when-results-20279186.php

This Saturday, we will be spreading the word about ranked choice voting and our campaigns to get referendums on the ballot in Naperville and Chicago. Join us at the forefront of the fight for better elections! RSVP at FairVoteIllinois.org/events!
Who is behind FairVote Illinois? It's a group of volunteers from across the Prairie State advocating for better elections with ranked choice voting!

As well as this, they tried to remove #RCV, like in the 1930's in #NewYork.
They had #ProportionalRepresentation & #RankedChoiceVoting for #municipal elections. Not only did it benefit black & brown people & poorer #community, but it also help elect a #Socialist & #Communist.
#NY ultimately removed RCV & #PR because #Communists & #Socialists were gaining seats.

In fact I can even provide examples where #RankedChoiceVoting / #RCV isn't much a final solution and where direct oppositions from #Democrats would occur:
In #Maine there was #LisaSavage (The Independent #Progressive Candidate) against #MaxLinn ( The #Independent Candidate), #SaraGideon (The #Democrats Candidate) & #SusanCollins (The #Republicans Candidate).
BREAKING: Skokie, IL just became the THIRD municipality in Illinois to adopt #RankedChoiceVoting!
58.29% of voters voted to pass the binding referendum, which requires that future elections of Mayor, Clerk, and Trustees be done via RCV. Turnout exceeded 25%, high number for an off-year election!
Skokie voters will now have more choices and more power in future local elections. Congrats to Skokie, and thank you to all who helped get this on the ballot and passed!
We just finished up our Rank your Beer event! Participants ranked their favorites from a selection of four beers, and the ultimate winner (Blood Orange Blonde Ale) got majority support in just two rounds of tabulation with #RankedChoiceVoting.
We were joined by Vice President of Operations of the League of Women Voters of Chicago John Engle, who spoke about the long history of ranked choice voting in Irish elections and the great benefits it would bring to Chicago.
Ranked choice voting is an important upgrade for making our elections more fair and giving voters real choice at the polls. We are glad to see our state legislators taking initiative to advance democracy! Stay tuned on our social media channels to be notified of actions you can take to support active legislation.
Our "RCV for Chicago" kickoff meeting went great last night! We discussed which alders we've been able to chat with so far and where we're going from here. We're aiming to get City Council to pass a resolution this Fall to put a binding ranked choice voting referendum on the March 2026 primary ballot.
Hey #democraticparty, if you want to help your constituents and ensure their voices are heard, consider using ranked-choice voting in the primaries. It helps select the best candidate and makes it easier to win the general election. Free tip if you want to win back the people.
Great day at the Naperville St. Patrick's Day parade! In Naperville, We're spreading the word about #RankedChoiceVoting, a voting system that would give voters more choices and more power in their local elections! #strongerbychoice
Hey #WashingtonState voters, we have one more day to get the #RankedChoiceVoting bill out of committee in the state legislature. Please take a moment to call the Legislative Hotline at (800) 562-6000 and register your support for the Washington VOICES Act, HB 1448!
Here's a link to the bill: https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=1448&Year=2025
And here is FairVote Washington's one-pager: https://fairvotewa.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/FairVote-WA_Washington-VOICES-Act_012225.pdf
Ranked choice voting levels the playing field for women, candidates of color, and people new to the political game. Candidates don't have to worry about "spoiling the election" and voters don't have to worry about "strategic voting." With RCV, everyone gets a fair chance in our elections and voters can vote their true preferences.
This is the most momentum we've ever seen for ranked choice voting in Illinois. After 2 local referenda victories in 2024, Skokie will vote on whether to adopt RCV on April 1st! Join us at our statewide meeting on Thursday, 3/13, at 7PM to help fight for a better, fairer democracy! RSVP at FairVoteIllinois.org/events to receive the Zoom link!
that's exactly what has to happen
now the #left must devour the #Democrats
only then can we get movement on things like #rankedChoiceVoting #rcv where we get viable third parties
with ranked choice and stable third parties we get to vote our conscience free and clear for once in this damn country
rather than this endless insipid need for strategy in #fptp voting, compromising to #centrist bullshit that saps the will and the passion
