When I first started collecting old #jazzrecords they were so cheap you could just take a chance on them because of the cover art which is what I did with this one. I’d never be able to afford a clean copy of this today. Love this album. Quick wipe down with @thesizzler ‘s cleaning solution and it’s playing as quiet as the day it was pressed in 1958. #vinyl #recordcollection #jazz #redgarland #johncoltrane @vinylrecords

The Red Garland Quintet - All Mornin' Long
Another great Prestige recording (and van Gelder, of course).
Garland leads John Coltrane (sax), Donald Byrd (trumpet), George Joyner (bass), and Art Taylor (drums) through a few extended tracks, on the slightly bluesier side of hard bop.

Doug Watkins (2 Mar 1934–5 Feb 1962) was not a flashy bass player – but one of the greats of the modern jazz era. "A Little Bit of Basie" by the Red Garland Trio - with Specs Wright on drums:

A nice find in the used bins - John Coltrane with the Red Garland Trio (retitled as Traening In later).
Gotta say that #RedGarland on It Never Entered My Mind is sublime. That opening track is also a decent test of the SQ. The piano, often a giveaway on poorly recorded/mastered tracks sounds very natural & lifelike. Not spookily so, but balanced with a proper sense of wood, hammers hitting strings, & natural resonance.
There‘s a touch of distortion here and there, but without a comparison, I’m gonna guess that’s to do with mic placement & RVG recording hot. Happy to be corrected on that though!
Rare day off work & #NowPlaying #Cookin’ with the #MilesDavis Quintet.
I love these #Prestige recordings & the line up here is unbelievable: #JohnColtrane, #RedGarland, #PhillyJoeJones, & #PaulChambers.
This is from #OJC, likely cut from digital, but it really does sound good, particularly for the money. Despite the light weight card, the reproduction of that iconic sleeve is on point.
#Workin’ (OJC) arrives tomorrow to complete the series.
