"It’s true that past descriptions of GB Energy’s role have sometimes mentioned #nuclear, but never as the headline act. It was never spelled out, for example, that the entirety of public support for SMRs would come from GB Energy’s budget."

The Guardian · Great British Energy’s budget has been nukedBy Nils Pratley

UK's #GreenParty on nuclear: We want to see the phase-out of #nuclear #energy, which is unsafe and much more expensive than #renewables. The development of nuclear power stations is too slow given the pace of action we need on #climate. They also create unmanageable quantities of radioactive waste and are inextricably linked with the production of nuclear weapons.

strangely we haven't heard any of this as the gov. is throwing billions at nuclear. #UKpolitics

Green PartyPowering Up Fairer, Greener Energy - Green PartyReal hope.Real change. Accelerating clean energy investment and delivery The UK’s current climate targets do not reflect the urgency of the climate crisis. We would push the Government to transition to a zero-carbon society as soon as possible, and more than a decade ahead of 2050. This ambition will deliver a zerocarbon electricity supply and […]

This is just such a great and accessible explanation of how our national electricity market(#NEM) runs that I have to share it. It’s essentially an ‘everything you wanted to know about renewable’s role in how we use electricity’ simple explainer. As an added bonus, it clarifies the role #Gas as #peakers and explains why #nuclear plants don’t get a look-in in the Australian energy generation market. It also uses the South Australia energy profile to foretell where we go from here nationally and provided a real world example of the ‘base load’ that will ultimately be required (shows up the crazy #LNP claims for the lies that they are).

ABC News · Can renewables and nuclear play nice in Australia's power grid of tomorrowBy Alex Lim

One of the forever-complaints against renewables is that they can’t respond to fluctuating energy needs

It used to be an old saw even among environmentalists that we’d always need a little coal or oil, to be dropped like fat on the fire when the grid needed sudden generation to meet surprise demand.

Except it turns out old-fashioned hydropower can serve that purpose, and in fact people have known that for ages!

In Wales, twin gravity-powered hydro plants Ffestiniog and Dinorwig have been providing on-the-spot electricity during power surges for 62 and 41 years respectively!

Vatican City has joined the 100% renewables club!

The Vatican has become the world’s latest state to be powered entirely by renewables, with solar installations now supplying all electricity (thanks, Pope Francis!).

It joins a growing group that includes Iceland, Bhutan, and Ethiopia #renewables #climate #ClimateChange #environment #solar #vatican #pope
