On a hike earlier this week a question occurred to me. How many trees are there on the planet? When I got home I did some searching of the literature, and found a 2015 paper I vaguely remembered. The paper estimated 3 trillion trees globally, but then I went down rabbit hole trying to figure out what (if anything) that number means. (🧵: 1/4)
