David Hembrow<p>When I went out with parcels today I thought about the new surface that we have on our street. It's much lighter in colour than the usual asphalt. I wondered if this also means that it reflects more light so is cooler.</p><p>Later on I took my IR thermometer out to measure the temperature and sure enough the new light surface was between 35 and 37 C while the black asphalt nearby equally in the sun measured between 39 and 41 C.</p><p>This could make city streets and residential areas appreciably more pleasant during the summer.
