I was previously posting about trying to charge an EV while using #LineageOS. I ordered an RFID tag from #Chargepoint, which works well, and I tried their app too. I thought that it wasn't working because of Google Play Integrity, which prevents banking apps for instance from working on unsigned devices. It turns out that I can still log in and even initiate a charge from the app, but because I don't have Google Play Services installed on my device I can't use the map feature to search for charging stations. I don't really care that much about this, since I can use #CoMaps for the same purpose.

I'm aware I can use #microG to get this functionality, and that I can get some level of device signing, but I don't care to.

@apfeltalk CarKey = RFiD digital key fob by Apple Wallet. So why car charging points operators like #EnBW wouldn’t deliver #RFiD enablement directly to my iPhone? Instead of delivering physical charging cards by Post.

🆕 blog! “Reading NFC Passport Chips in Linux”

For boring and totally not nefarious reasons, I want to read all the data contained in my passport's NFC chip using Linux. After a long and annoying search, I settled on roeften's pypassport.

I can now read all the passport information, including biometrics.

Positive post-vacation assessment: I ended up using three apps. A fourth proved useless. Still surprised no EV charging network is offering digital #RFiD cards. To reliably activate with the tap of a smartphone without needing connectivity and without having to choose in-app the right connector. Apart of that nowadays vendors are converging to a subscription-less model. Eventually account-less will also be the norm with direct payments support becoming mandatory at every station.

For #BEV owners charging at home is the best and cheapest option.

For the other half of the drivers population who doesn’t have a garage, or simply need to charge on the go, #public #charging stations offer a variety of activation methods.

But the most widely available method still is an #RFiD card. Physical cards.

It came to me #smartphones could act as an RFiD card since years ago. From #Apple #Wallet as example. So why do we still need to wait for one to be delivered by post?

I always wanted a simple way to put the phone to silent mode when e.g. placing it on the table next to the 🛏️ . Since Biemster got NFC to work on the Oneplus 6/6T (github.com/biemster/pmos-openb) we can leverage that and have feedbackd's profile adjusted when certain RFIDs are seen (source.puri.sm/Librem5/feedbac). For this to land we want to move the NFC support from a python script to s.th. like nfcd (github.com/biemster/pmos-openb). Help on this would be appreciated.
