@Ninji actually, no because #SCART cables don't necessarily have sufficient shielding and are mechanically too imprecise for highspeed data transfer even considering #Thunderbolt 1.0.and #USB 3.0...
SCART cable and HDMI converter work with the Roland S550, as expected.
Now I got to figure a way to mount that monitor to the keyboard stand
@JohnBloor they often advertised the Roland S550 with a monitor and a mouse. (and sometimes a graphic tablet or an editing interface). But surprisingly, they didn't show much of how it looked on screen...
Here shown with the S50 keyboard (the s550 is the rack version)
Can't wait to try this out this weekend. It is a special SCART video cable for Roland samplers with RGB out. This connects to a SCART to HDMI converter, then to a monitor. this will be much better than the composite black and white output.
So.
The day has finally arrived.
The day that comes to every man.
The day I need a SCART to RCA adaptor.
The adaptor that lived for years in my cables-I-will-never-use-again box.
The box that I sorted and dumped.
So, eBay here I come…
@philpem what's cursed to me is that somehow that thing seems to have #SCART yet someone chose to use #Composite instead...
For Euro peeps this isn't so exciting, but in North America we never got #scart and it was almost like its existence was hidden from us. S-video seemed godly back then, but scart was basically an analog HDMI that was in use in Europe since the late 70's. I would have killed to have had this kind of video quality. At least now I do. #retrogaming https://youtu.be/eabbQZkvNq4
@LunaFoxgirlVT #RGB #SCART is second best analog port.
Best port is #DTerminal in Version D5:

My dream for a new product would be a killer #retrocomputing monitor. A big LCD with a 4:3 aspect ratio and enough ports, supported resolutions, and refresh rates that you could plug in anything from an #8Bit computer's composite adapter to #SCART to HDMI or whatever and make it work. I would crowdfund something like that so hard.
@kalleboo @BasicAppleGuy @mdhughes no #SCART version?
Damn...
Cerco una ciabatta #scart che sia assolutamente #RGB anche su #aliexpress che però sia un buon prodotto, sapete consigliarmi qualcosa? #retrogaming #retrocomputer

I was having an annoying issue with my Super Nintendo, N64, and Dreamcast with RGB over SCART where the TV would switch to 16:9.
Turns out that if there’s a voltage on pin 8 in the 5-8V range, it tells the TV to use 16:9. For some reason, both cables were wired to output 5V here. Weird.
Desoldering the connection fixed my problem! Now the TV correctly defaults to 4:3.
@liz Personally, I have an #HDMI - #Recorder and I'm still pissed that #HDMI was adopted and not #SDI / #HDSDI for cabling outside of professional studios.
Cuz it's a pain in the ass to remove the value-removing bs that is #HDCP...
You know what was needed to record shit before #HDMI? A #SCART cable and a #VCR!
Good! The #TV I picked up for free through #FINN (Norway's probably most popular #secondHand online marketplace), seems to work!
Which means I finally have a working screen again that supports #SCART, so I could connect my #Philips #NMS8250 #MSX2 #homeComputer again. :D
Man... those pixels are large I kinda wish I had a small CRT just for systems like this.
