Hello vintage computer friends... I have a lil SGI O2 workstation with a Dallas clock chip — it's the cheeky type of chip with an internal battery. I do Not Like This.
Are they known to leak? Do we remove the battery from the chip? Replace the chip with something else?

I wished someone would claw the #sgi brand from #HPE's hands or at least do a #brand & #design licensing deal to remanufacture the classic #SiliconGraphics case designs but for modern mainboard form factors.
- Simply because many folks like myself like #Pizzabox-Style #PCcases and #Casemodding an original SGI part will get one hatemessaged by everyone.
Seriously, I'm shure there's some warehouse with the molds for those plastic cases or at the very least the geometry and design stuff...

@glennf i had a DAT drive on my Silicon Graphics Octane. It could store around 10GB if i remember right. It had a neat trick in that i could transfer digital audio i had recorded on my studio DAT unit. I still have the Octane, but the scsi DAT drive was dead years ago.
first power-on of this crusty Silicon Graphics O2 went great! It has a 200Mhz R5000 CPU with 128MB of shared memory and (so far) no storage. Next on the bench is its twin, which also sat in a barn for 20+ years, until I get the right drives to install Irix
