Inflaming xenophobia is a standard tactic of right wing politicians the world over.

>>Following the attempted insurrection on Dec. 3, Yoon and his supporters, as well as a number of ruling party lawmakers, have made ludicrous claims of Chinese election interference and argued that there has been organized participation by Chinese nationals in pro-impeachment rallies. The result has been an increase in Yoon supporters openly expressing their hatred of China and its people, going so far as to threaten and intimidate Chinese nationals they come across. <<

HankyorehRise of open Sinophobia leaves Chinese in Korea living in fearChinese nationals living in Korea said they’ve had to “keep their heads down” to avoid trouble amid rising virulent anti-China sentiment

Was about to reply in a thread but felt it might be hijacking, so here are some thoughts about how to learn about the mostly forgotten history of violence against the Chinese in the US.

"The Chinese must go" by Beth Lew-Williams goes into detail about the Chinese exclusion act and all the sinophobic violence that preceded and succeeded it. And how awful it was to be Chinese and living in California as it was one of the last states to remove anti-chinese laws.

#Sinophobia 101

#Sinophobie 1x1:

>>Tariffs are a regressive and distortionary source
of public finance, and they do not help the groups they are intended to help.
They instead introduce new economic inefficiencies and collateral damage, and
they make it more difficult to work cooperatively with allies and partners to solve
our most vexing international problems.<<

I have the impression that Trump doesn't understand that tariffs are taxes on imports.

I think he believes that tariffs are some sort of import license payment that foreign governments have to pay.

In addition to his poor understanding of international trade and economics, Trump's insistence that imports from "JAIAIAIAINA" be subject to a wopping 60% tariff suggest that this central policy plank of his is rooted in racism.

CLAIM #5 “The Chinese-owned companies that are addressed by these cases...”

REALITY: Interesting mix of pandering to #Sinophobia and failure to disaggregate. There are a lot of Chinese-owned manufacturers in these nations, but there are also a lot of non-Chinese owned. Like Boviet (Vietnamese-owned) VSUN (Japanese-owned), Imperial Star, and even QCells and First solar, which *manufacture in the countries they accuse of dumping and illegal subsidies*.

Pot, kettle, anti-competitive behavior. /7

This suggestion seems sensible to me and could spark a useful global debate.

However, I'm neither Chinese nor that well informed on Sinophobia, so I would be keen to hear comments from anybody more clued up than I am.
