The most frustrating thing about bicycle advocacy in Australia is that all the data is there, we've got in principle support from local councils and the state governments, and government plans for handling future traffic congestion and emissions reductions are relying on significant number (25%) of trips to be via active transport in a relatively short time frame (2030) but getting infrastructure to support these clearly stated goals is like squeezing water from a stone.

It's not a money problem or a logistics problem but only a problem of political will to do the things they need to do to meet the targets they've set.

Amusing piece about the Vic government's proposed WFH policy (which it probably doesn't have the power to impose). Fighting with shadows.

"Since the Liberal Party, after 11 years in opposition, stubbornly refuses to put itself forward as a viable, alterative government, Labor has no choice but to confect one, complete with a range of fictional policies, so it has something to fight against."

In other poverty news, Victoria's big plan to exile poor people from the city is rolling ahead, despite clear problems with it... like the plan itself (yes, I live in one of these estates):

Yet again, The University of Melbourne showing their true colours.

The fact they're "investigating the leak" and didn't sack this racist piece of shit the moment he sent the email says everything about who they are.

I suppose it just backs up Dr Eddie Cubillo's comments on the school: “most culturally unsafe place I’ve worked”

It is inconsistent as well. Banning e-bikes on trains because of fear of fire but allowing foldable e-bikes and e-scooters on buses and trams?

They have the same kind of batteries? On the sudden it is not an issue?

Anyway, submit if you do not want to lose the right to bring an e-bike with you when travelling on trains!

The Victorian government is proposing new regulations banning e-bikes (and e-scooters, e-skateboards etc) from travelling on trains (and trams, buses, coaches etc). engage.vic.gov.au/public-trans

We're preparing a submission (consultation closes 18 August). Question to e-device users: how would this affect you?

Must say I don't trust the Victorian government at all on this issue. If the towers need to be demolished they should be replaced by 100% new public housing, instead of being incorporated into a bigger private complex.

'The plan to demolish Melbourne’s 44 public housing towers has been slammed as “ethnic and class cleansing” and a “land grab for developers” in explosive testimony at a parliamentary inquiry.

'Yarra City Council Mayor Stephen Jolly, a former public housing tenant, told the inquiry on Tuesday that the state government’s redevelopment project was designed to hand over prime inner-city real estate to build “high-rises for rich people”.'

It's good people are seeing that Victoria Police just refuse to do their job, it's just sad it's over a child being abused.

I've called the cops about being run off the road on my bike, threatened, had a guy run up onto the footpath, and one stop and threaten to kill me if I was ever riding on my own street again.

Every single time, cops refuse to even proceed as "it'd be too difficult", which is shorthand for "it'd take us actually doing our job".

I can't imagine how this feels when it's your kid being abused, or you're a woman being stalked.

There needs to be drastic reform in Victoria Police, especially at a command level, as these are the pale stale males who refuse to take any case on that's not a "slam dunk":

The CFA's response is pretty pissweak. Senior members of the brigade were involved in this, how else were they allowed to drive the truck from Pura Pura to Melbourne?

And it's not just the "Ditch the bitch", full on cooker slogans all over it.

Until the CFA takes action, more than "having a chat", they're done in my book. I'm not the only one sick of seeing misogynists, bigots, and conspiracy theorists get away with hateful language, all because it's "political speech".

It's not, it's hate, and, in the words of Lieutenant General David Morrison:

The standard you walk past is the standard you accept

Honestly, the CFA can play hide and go fuck themselves, and I'm going to make sure they know it when they're down at Coles or Woolworths asking for donations; they're there this week, too.

This kind of shit is expected from Battin, but from supposed "emergency services", this is beyond the pale.

Maybe they should focus on doing their jobs rather than protesting levies:

I wonder if we'll get changes to laws like Zionists have?

What about the PM spending time with the LGBTQIA+ community?

Or even a statement from the PM?

Nope? Yeh, didn't think so.

Nazis can attack my people, and all we get is platitudes.

Nazis mount antisemitic attacks on Jewish places, then it's change of law, and attacking pro-Palestinian protestors who had nothing to do with it.

When we talk about a double standard, this is it
