CochraneNowDoctor says time change has way too many ill-effectsFall back, spring forward. As millions of Canadians brace themselves to turn their clocks back an hour this weekend, on Nov. 3, marking the end of daylight-saving time and a return to standard time, a University of Calgary psychology professor continues to warn of the health risks associated with the twice-a-year time change. Dr. Michael Antle, PhD, a renowned expert on the brain’s circadian clock, which regulates sleep/wake rhythms, has long argued against the time change as disrupted sleep patterns see increases in car accidents and workplace injuries, as well as heart attacks and strokes. Dr. Antle, who is a member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the Cummins School of Medicine, says for our own sake we need to introduce year-round standard time. He explains there's a clock in our brain that not only follows daylight but coordinates all of our body's rhythms. googletag.cmd.push(function() { if($(document).width()<900) { s = googletag.defineSlot('/50748803/con_ros_bb', [300, 250], 'div-gpt-21846943808-bbm1'); s.setTargeting('URL', [window.location.pathname]); s.setTargeting('position', [21846943808]) s.addService(googletag.pubads()); googletag.pubads().refresh([s], {changeCorrelator: false}); } });

“I often say that 1883 is my favorite year in history because of all that happened in that pivotal year, and one of those things is the way modernity swept across the United States of America in a way that was shocking at the time but that is now so much a part of our world we rarely even think of it….”
