I don't want to link to Instagram here, but there are some things IG conveys conveniently - such as a medley of little snippets from a couple of recent shows with the accordionist / composer / pianist Simone Baron --> instagram.com/p/DMfahOBgZ6v/

c.im/@hanktank61@nerdjoy.socia , who enjoys listening to British music from the first half of the twentieth century, recently mentioned the composer Dorothy Howell (1898 -1982).

After the 1919 success of her symphonic poem "Lamia", she became known as the "English Richard Strauss".

I don't much care for this kind of dubbing, as it seems unwittingly to belittle its recipient ; has anybody thought of referring to Richard Strauss as the "German Dorothy Howell"?

In addition, this particular example set this Richard Strauss fan up for disappointment. "Lamia" is OK, but it doesn't hold a candle to the German's symphonic poems.

Then I turned to her Nocturne for Muted Strings and was entranced - I hope you will be too!

Jeez in hell! Nowadays they're selling sets of #strings for #guitar and #bass with colored ends and manuals, where to put up which string with which color.

What's wrong with people?! If you can't decide, where to put up which string by looking, touching, feeling or even licking the strings - stay away from stringed instruments!

Flash-back with the #soundtrack I #composed for MACBETH by #shakespeare with the Dir. Geoffrey Dyson at the Pulloff #theatres Lausanne • translations by Antoinette Monod🇨🇭
