And the #Bochum #sunset show goes on ... today the #sunspot group (1)4087 was very prominent, and there was #AtmosphericalOptics galore: sometimes it stretched or duplicated the spot vertically while at other times a #GreenSegment 'lifted off' from the Sun's upper limb. The #sunspot group (1)4087 - the black dot above the trees - during today's #Bochum #sunset ... it was clearer than yesterday so even at the very shortest possible exposure, 1/16,000 sec at f/8 and ISO 100, the Sun was still significantly overexposed. Meanwhile the sunspot itself is taking a nap and produced only an M and a few C flares today but its magnetic structure allegedly keeps having a potential for more.

Cloud gap fun with the big #sunspot group AR (1)4079 - now near the central meridian - today (4 May 2025) in Bochum, Germany: through eclipse glasses in the late afternoon ... and during a super-bright sunset. Rain had cleared the atmosphere so much that in the clear segments even at sunset 1/16'000 second at f/8 and ISO 100 still delivered an overexposed picture! The double umbra is still visible, however, as were nice green effects earlier at the upper rim: more pictures in facebook.com/dan.fischer.393/p

The big #sunspot group (1)4079 - and the smaller (1)4076 - this afternoon, shot with a Panasonic Lumic DMC-FZ300 at maximum digital zoom; I think the resolution is slightly higher than when using maximum optical zoom and cropping. The filter were aluminized mylar eclipse glasses. Was also easy to see naked-eye through black polymer eclipse glasses, quite unusual for a group still so close to the limb!
