Márton Salomváry<p>This might be the most amazing swimming pool I ever dipped my toes into. Continuously filled with fresh water from a mountain stream, overlooking the Danube, and at my visit, used by nobody else.</p><p>It’s very close to a busy section of the <a href="https://mastodon.berlin/tags/Donauradweg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Donauradweg</span></a>, yet not visible from there and no signs reveal its existence either, must be a well kept secret spot for the locals. Paco Hope #resist<p>OK, so I got some preliminary results. I used <a href="https://github.com/Th3NiKo/Video-heatmap" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">this video heatmap tool</a>.</p><p>My video was pretty crappy. The camera wasn't well placed. But it's kinda neat for a first attempt.</p><p>There's a couple hot areas at the top left and bottom right. The top left is a spillway in the pool that has water constantly moving. And I think the bottom right is just grass/bushes blowing in the wind.</p><p>I took the video and compressed it down quite a bit, so it's an hour's worth of motion in 20 seconds. Pretty neat.</p><p>It did confirm my suspicions that the robot gets stuck in the corners a lot and doesn't do a lot of longitudinal runs. Paco Hope #resist<p>Ok. Here's a 10-second sample of what I got. 3 things went wrong.</p><ol><li>The gopro has some "automatic" get-the-orientation-wrong sensor. It decided this was a portrait mode video.</li><li>It's impossible to see, from the ground, what the video looks like when it's all the way up. So it's not really focused on the pool well. There's a whole chunk of pool excluded.</li><li>I only got about an hour, but the poomba battery lasted 3.5 hours. I have power I can tap, so next time I try this I will plug the camera in.</li></ol><p>Still, I have enough video to experiment with. I also need to see whether the wide-angle lens is necessary, or whether I can get it with linear focus instead.</p><p>I'm curious how much it gets stuck in the corners. Unlike a lot of pools, there isn't a straight line in my pool. It's a curvy, asymmetric shape. Some of the curvature is obviously the fishbowl effect from the lens. I've been reading a lot about pop music genius Brian Wilson (RIP) lately (can also highly recommend the biopic 'Love and Mercy'). Anyway. One of the many things I learned: Brian hated business meetings.

He had a theory: people are more 'themselves' and less likely to con you if they're in their swimming trunks. So, he invited them to formal meetings in his swimming pool. Apparently, it worked most of the time.

And when it didn't, he would start splashing them. 🌊

Can I just say that I'd LOVE to have a swimming pool right now? Both for cooling down and for business meeting purposes.

Wouldn't it be nice...

Prior to 2017 we'd never been to Belgium before, despite it being one of the closest foreign countries to our home, but in November of that year we made our third trip there, this time aboard P&O Ventura, a first time aboard that particular ship although its design class was by now very familiar to us. We got aboard very early for some reason and it wasn't particularly warm at that time of the year so the upper deck of the ship was almost completely empty and eerie as we had a quick explore before departing from Southampton.
