Just realized it's #TextureTuesday

Detail from a rotten tree on the side of a trail: there are wood fibers from the main branch going nearly horizontally across the top of the photo, but then there are two protuberances pointing down from this branch that are strangely conical, maybe 4" thick where they leave the main branch but each tapering to a point. In these cones, the fiber direction is the same as on the branch, roughly horizontal in the photo, not along the cones toward the point like you might expect.

Found this Lycogala flavofuscum slime mold just as it was beginning to fully harden. Kind of a cool color and texture. (Especially since it started out a smooth cotton candy pink color.)

Closeup of a bulbous looking slime mold wedged in the folds of bark on a standing tree. The mold is hardening as the dark clay color is transitioning to a scabby black. The 2 mold fruitings are about 3 total inches in length. A close examination of the scabby black will show a texture resembling cracked tar.

For #TextureTuesday, some #terracotta details of the #NaturalHistoryMuseum façade in #London. The architect, Alfred Waterhouse, was tasked to create a "cathedral to nature" and wow, did he deliver!
