Kai<p>I love what GoodReads offers, but I certainly don't love GoodReads. I've tried out The Storygraph about five years ago and thought I might try again.</p><p>I applaud the minimalist design. But I don't like that it doesn't put avatars on the review pages. Seems very impersonal to me. Also, why doesn't it distinguish between reviews and ratings (reviews without text)?</p><p>The book pages need getting used to, too. It's not ideal that you have to scroll down to see the overall rating.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/theStoryGraph" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>theStoryGraph</span></a></p>

Zivan - Childless Cat Guy<p>I was looking for a Story Graph reading challenge for 2025.</p><p>I like challenges with prompts that specify an SFF subgenre and make you try and figure out where your books belong. It's a neat way to learn and think about what you read. </p><p>I've already covered the main subgenres and was glad to find a new challenge for books that subvert the main categories. </p><p>With prompts like: </p><p> Portal Anti-Fantasy:</p><p>Characters reject the fantastical world or question its morality. <br>Example: The Magicians by Lev Grossman. </p><p> Dystopian Satire:</p><p>Deconstructs traditional dystopian tropes through humor or irony. <br>Example: Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. </p><p> Post-Horror:</p><p>Downplays traditional scares for emotional depth and thematic exploration. <br>Example: Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. </p><p>This is a better list for long time SFF readers that are looking for novels that play with the main tropes of the genre. </p><p>I find that most of the authors I read today are working with established tropes but bend, reshape or subvert them. </p><p><a href="https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/d6d1f275-b9a6-4d2c-b154-c1b3ddc46a32" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">app.thestorygraph.com/reading_</span><span class="invisible">challenges/d6d1f275-b9a6-4d2c-b154-c1b3ddc46a32</span></a></p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://bookstodon.thestorygraph.com/@thestorygraph" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>thestorygraph</span></a></span> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/TheStoryGraph" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TheStoryGraph</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/ReadingChallenge" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ReadingChallenge</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/SFF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SFF</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/ScienceFiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScienceFiction</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/fantasy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fantasy</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/bookstodon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>bookstodon</span></a></span> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a></p>
