So cute!Pic 3 shows how azolla grows & spreads in its tiny plastic-bowl pond. 💚Azolla is an aquatic plant that grows on the surface of fresh water. Many pond-keepers are not fond of azolla because of how rapidly it grows & how quickly it can cover a whole pond. Seth M. WalkerMy interest in mycology has recently spread to lichenology. I’m just so fascinated by these tiny, symbiotic life-forms. They’re as curious as they are beautiful. But identification isn’t as straightforward as wild plants. Especially since there are around 400 macrolichens in my area (around 1,000 overall). What I thought I captured here as one species is apparently multiple species growing alongside each other. My best guess on the third picture with the brownish-orange apothecia (spore-producing disc-cups) is Rhizoplaca chrysoleuca. I think the prominent yellowish-orange in the first two pictures is some sort of Candelaria. I think the grayish-white with black spots at the top right and bottom right in the second picture is Aspicilia casiocinerea. Not sure yet about the black species seen in all three pictures. Perhaps some sort of leafy-gray Xanthoparmelia in all three too.
