#MayDay protesters will rally nationwide against the 'war on working people'
Emma Bowman, April 30, 2025
"Tens of thousands of protesters are expected to take to the streets nationwide on Thursday in May Day rallies opposing the #Trump administration.
"May Day, celebrated by workers across the globe as #InternationalLaborDay, occurs on May 1 each year. This year, activists in the U.S. aim to build on the momentum of recent widespread grassroots protests against policies implemented by the Trump administration.
"#AntiTrump protesters have expressed a range of concerns regarding the administration's recent actions, including the elimination of thousands of federal #jobs, #immigration raids, and billionaire Elon #Musk's involvement in downsizing the U.S. government.
"A protest against the Trump administration's 'war on #WorkingPeople'
"On May Day, protesters are honing their message to decry what they say are attacks on the working class and immigrants. Organizers for the effort, called #MayDayStrong, say the administration and its billionaire allies pose a threat to labor rights, public services, and the safety of immigrants regardless of their legal status. Organizers have stated their opposition to violent forms of protest.
"' This is a war on working people,' organizers said on the May Day Strong events web page.
" 'They're defunding our schools, privatizing public services, attacking unions, and targeting immigrant families with fear and violence,' they added. 'We are reclaiming our power from corporate elites, and we will not be intimidated by Trump, Musk, or their billionaire backers. They've ruled for too long.'
"The White House did not immediately respond to NPR's request for comment.
"The U.S. does not officially observe the labor holiday, due to what historians say is an enduring resistance to working-class unity. Despite that resistance, America's working class has found ways to commemorate May Day since the 19th century."

#Trump Starts Making Demands After Another Wild #GOP #TownHall
Story by Julia Ornedo, April 27, 2025
Excerpt: "Similar scenes have rocked town halls all over the country since Trump took office.
"Last week, Florida Rep. #ByronDonalds, a #MAGA star, faced angry boos in his town hall.
"Not even Democrats have been spared. Earlier this month, Rep. #LauraFriedman was confronted by a rowdy group of constituents who were unsatisfied with her efforts to resist the Trump administration’s policies."
#Republican Representative’s #TownHall Blows up in His Face
by Edith Olmsted

"Republican Representative Mike Lawler wanted to impose order during his town hall Sunday, but no amount of rule-setting could have spared him from the fury of his constituents.
"The New York Republican displayed a list of guidelines outside Clarkstown South High School in West Nyack, New York, where he was hosting his first town hall of the year.
"The list required attendees to provide proof of residency in New York’s 17th district, prohibited 'shouting, screaming, yelling or standing,' and encouraged them to 'be respectful of one another, of staff, and of the congressman.'
"But in the end, Lawler still faced tough criticism over his deference to President Donald #Trump—often in the form of shouting and insults.
" 'What are you doing to stand in opposition to this administration? And what specifically are you doing that warrants the label ‘moderate?’ asked one constituent, a video on X showed, as the crowd of roughly 700 people erupted into cheers.
" 'My record speaks for itself—' Lawler began, sending the audience into raucous laughter and jeers. As Lawler continued to limply defend his supposedly moderate record—ProPublica has found that he voted in line with MAGA Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene 81 percent of the time—his constituents refused to quiet their anger.
" 'Folks, if you want me to answer the questions, let the question be asked, and then listen to the answer,' Lawler said. 'If you’re just going to yell back and forth, the time is gonna run pretty quick.'
"Lawler told his constituents who had expressed concern about Trump’s escalating trade war and 'reciprocal tariff' policy that the president was simply responding to an 'affordability crisis.'
" 'What caused record inflation? Five trillion dollars in new spending in the first two years of the Biden administration is what gave us record inflation,' Lawler said, drowned out by the sounds of booing from the crowd.
"Constituents also expressed anger about the president’s inhumane #deportations and his attacks on U.S. #universities and colleges, Secretary of Defense Pete #Hegseth’s mounting scandals, and concerns that Republicans were planning to make major cuts to #SocialSecurity and #Medicaid."

#NPR: The U.S. takes a step toward allowing #mining on the ocean floor, a fragile #ecosystem
by Julia Simon, April 25, 2025
"President #Trump signed an executive order Thursday aimed at making it easier for companies to mine the deep seafloor, saying it would create 'a robust domestic supply for critical minerals.'
"There is currently no commercial-scale deep-sea mining anywhere in the world. But companies have long eyed the ocean floor as a potential source of metals like nickel, cobalt, manganese and copper, which are used in batteries for electric vehicles and other technologies.
"The world has no rulebook for deep-sea mining. One company is pushing forward anyway
"These metals can be found in potato-sized nodules lying on the ocean floor. Many of the nodules are in the middle of the Pacific ocean, beyond the legal territory of individual countries.
"Thursday's order might circumvent ongoing international negotiations to regulate deep-sea mining.
"Those regions have traditionally been overseen by an international organization, the #InternationalSeabedAuthority (#ISA). The ISA has hosted talks for years to try to hammer out a rulebook to govern a potential seabed mining industry. The U.S. did not ratify the treaty that governs the seabed, and is not a voting member of the ISA, though in the past under previous administrations it has respected the ISA process.
"In his executive order, Trump instructed federal agencies to expedite the process for reviewing and issuing permits for mining on the seafloor in both U.S. and international territory. It will use a U.S. law from 1980, the "#DeepSeabed Hard Mineral Resources Act."
"Scientists and environmental groups condemned the order, arguing that opening the deep seabed for mining could disrupt important marine ecosystems, and damage the fishing industry.
" 'This is being planned on some of the least resilient #ecosystems on the planet,' says Douglas McCauley, professor of ocean science at the University of California Santa Barbara. 'It would have #catastrophic biological consequences.'
"Underwater mining can create plumes of sediment that could suffocate marine life, and degrade the #FoodWebs that fish depend on, McCauley says.
"There are also important questions about whether we actually need to be mining the seabed to get enough of these minerals for technologies like batteries, says Micah Ziegler, assistant professor of energy and chemical systems at Georgia Institute of Technology.
"While a couple of years ago researchers were concerned about the limitations of land-based mining for metals like cobalt and nickel, a variety of alternative #battery chemistries have been developed that might reduce the need for those elements, Ziegler says."

$3 billion yanked from #schools to help pay for #Trump’s tax cuts

"The Trump administration’s decision to claw back pandemic relief funds from schools is part of the administration’s attempt to find savings in the federal budget to offset the extension of Trump’s 2017 #TaxCuts, which would 'add an estimated $4.6 trillion to the debt over the next decade...."
Syndrome" is an actually thing and how many of us can be accused of having it?
It should also scare the right wing supporters, as once it becomes allowed, what happens if the left do return to power. How many of them can be classed as having mental health issues just from their support of those that harm them?

A deadly #EColi outbreak hit 15 states, but the #FDA chose not to publicize it
The outbreak linked to #RomaineLettuce killed one person and sickened at least 88 more, including a 9-year-old boy who nearly died of kidney failure.

"An E. coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce ripped across 15 states in November, sickening dozens of people, including a 9-year-old boy in Indiana who nearly died of kidney failure and a 57-year-old Missouri woman who fell ill after attending a funeral lunch. One person died.
"But chances are you haven’t heard about it.
"The Food and Drug Administration indicated in February that it had closed the investigation without publicly detailing what had happened — or which companies were responsible for growing and processing the contaminated #lettuce."

This article probably explains Chump's appeal better than anything I've read yet. Despite the fact that none of his policies actually help his followers. He really does loathe the same people who love him, but he acknowledges them, and that's unusual for them.
