REAL-ID update: 200,000 people a day fly without REAL-ID:

In a show of massive passive resistance to baseless threats by the TSA to prevent people without REAL-ID from traveling by air, more than 200,000 flyers without REAL-ID passed through TSA checkpoints and boarded airline flights in the US last Friday, setting a new record for people flying with no ID or with ID the TSA deems “unacceptable”:

""This latest technology helps ensure that we know who is boarding flights," said TSA’s Federal Security Director for Pennsylvania and Delaware Gerardo Spero in a news release last month. "Credential authentication plays an important role in passenger identity verification. It improves a TSA officer’s ability to validate a traveler’s photo identification while also identifying any inconsistencies associated with fraudulent travel documents."

However, there are rising concerns around the safety of biometric information storage, stemming from the lack of transparency around the database where the information is being stored.

"It's not about the integrity of your face or driver's license, it's about the database where you have no control," said India McKinney, director of federal affairs at the Electronic Frontier Foundation. There's the risk of misidentification, security breaches, plus human or technological error. The screening process also varies at different airports and even terminals, putting the burden on the traveler."

Bonjouuur👋🏻😊

Hier soir, j’ai réalisé que :

Bref : 🥳🥳🥳

"Not long ago, I did a routine check-in on a project I hadn’t thought about in a while: a Data Liberation Project repo that scrapes and archives Transportation Security Administration (TSA) traveler complaints. ... I’d just restart it, watch it pull in the latest report, and move on. But when I did? The latest report wasn’t there. Actually—none of them were."

MuckRockTSA complaint data disappeared. Here's where you can still find it.Public data is disappearing—but anyone can help preserve it. Groups like the Data Rescue Project and the Data Liberation Project are racing to preserve public interest datasets and they need all kinds of support.

@alice @SecurityWriter at least they were polite enough.

I know (now retired!) frequent business travelers to the #USA who had their #TSA locks cut with a bolt and even once when they were too stupid to just open it literally cut the side of a hardcase open with like an M9 or similarly huge knife, cuz their clothes got stabbed.

  • And OFC they didn't have the courtesy to even foilwrap the searched luggage so their stuff was spilled all over the coveyor belt and half was missing.

Since then they only traveled like the "Friendly Skies" presentation of @deviantollam recommended by packing a diving knife and a snap cap into the case or only business class with two in-cabin luggage items instead.

forget about #ICE #TSA #DHS #MAGA for a moment:

the last thing you want to happen is to end up in an American hospital because you had an accident or got food poisoning.

thanks to capitalism, many wont admit you if you don’t have the right CREDIT CARD.

NYC is the only place in USA that i know has a public hospital system for all, regardless of ability to pay.

so let a next of kin ―biological or by affidavit― know where you going, just in case. / 🧵
