Well, 272 consecutive weeks of #WFH ends today, as I managed to get my arse out of bed this morning and show up to an actual office.

It's even more fun coming back from a decently long vacation to see over 300 emails in my inbox. But guess what? I'm going to take my time and READ THEM ALL. And I'm going to take my freaking time, too.

Reading my news feeds this week, I noticed throughout the US, grocery workers, largely represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), are voting to approve strikes.

The workers are negotiating new contracts. Some are getting them, some are not and voting to approve striking.

Inflation my ass!

Kroger and Albertsons have funneled $9.5 billion combined into stock buybacks since 2023—money that could have raised wages for workers, lowered prices for consumers, and hired more staff for stores. #Union #UnionStrong #inflation #USPol

'CUPW stands solidly against a forced vote. A forced vote would mean yet another heavy-handed government attack on our rights to free collective bargaining – just months after the last Minister of Labour “paused” our legal strike in December 2024. Repeated government intervention poisons the bargaining process.

A forced vote is an attack on the most basic rights of trade unions to represent their members.'

Of course tech is not going to offer a solution, they're too stupid and greedy.
[Stupid may not be the right word. Monomind would be better. Like thinking EV's are it, or Mars. The combination with capitalistic greed makes it real stupid.]
Of course labor unions are not going to offer a solution, they're too conservative.
[In the sense that protecting jobs may not be as important as survival. e.g.: Coal has to go so don't protect the jobs but the miners [re-education for instance]. Don't get me wrong ! Unions are a very important part of the solution as is #Equity is a part of the solution.

And the problem I'm talking about is the #ClimateEmergency.
I see no other problem bigger or more urgent than the survival.

I know it's a slow burning disaster, and you don't see it now [ 😖😖 are you blind ?*] and you don't think it could be solved [ 😩😩I know you got no imagination** ]
There are better solutions to those giant diesel burning calamities used now. But don't think 'electric' or 'A.I.'. What about overhauling your logistics system ?
Robots or A.I. are not a solution to this giant problem. And don't accept the tales 'they' are selling you, it's a scam from an individual to get rich and powerful.
[I know many solutions will have to use a lot of computing power, but don't call that A.I.}

* I guess you don't see hurricanes, wildfires and flooding being more common and picking up in destruction ?
** If you can't even imagine the problem... no wonder you can't imagine the solution. And a lot of creative thinking is

Truck driving used to be a solid middle-class job. Not anymore. Driverless trucks just hit the highway in Texas. It’s displacing truck drivers. And truckers warn, “your job could be next.”

“Our members are the ones who implement the programs the WSIB leadership is celebrating today,” said Harry Goslin, President of OCEU/CUPE 1750. “WSIB Leaders should be back at the bargaining table prioritizing the needs of their employees and the injured workers we are here to take care of. Instead of doing what’s right for their employees and workers in Ontario somehow, they have time to come to this conference and pat themselves on the back”

The WSIB management sent Aaron Lazarus, their communications representative to the rally with timbits for the striking workers.

“We don’t want timbits, we want you back at the table,” said Goslin. “If the WSIB wants to be a leader in occupational health and safety, they need to address the workplace hazards in their own shop first,” added Nicole Francis, the unions Chief Steward. “Our members are struggling while the WSIB and Ford government pat themselves on the back for giving $4 billion dollars back to employers. It’s shameful.”
