We are in the second half of 2025 and my primary ISP, #ACTFibernet, is still blocking #VLC by blocking videolan.org and its sub-domains, nearly 3 years after the Indian government lifted the ban. @medianama covered this when it happened and @internetfreedom worked with the VLC project to get the ban lifted. #WhatTheBlock #India I’ll try calling my ISP and complaining.

Just here to leave a tip for people trying to save data who like #youtube or YouTube Music:

Download #vlc media player, then instead of directly watching the video on YouTube (if you mostly listen instead of watch that is) click share, and copy the link into this site to download the mp3 file:

No ads, no limits, and you can download the 96 bitrate file which is only like 30 MB per hour.

Then you skip YouTube ads too, and they still get a view.

I ran #Arch updates today and #VLC player stopped paying MP4 files.

On my machine, installing the following plug ins fixed the issue.

sudo pacman -S vlc-plugin-upnp
sudo pacman -S vlc-plugin-ffmpeg
sudo pacman -S vlc-plugin-x264
sudo pacman -S vlc-plugin-x265
