Retired judge Wally Oppal, the adjudicator of a public hearing looking into the 2019 Christmas Day death of 43-year-old Lisa Rauch, found that the officer who shot and killed her using less-lethal #ARWEN rounds was not justified in his use of force.

The spring 2024 hearing, requested by Rauch's family, and done under an adjudicator appointed by B.C.'s #police #watchdog, looked at the evidence and circumstances that led to #VictoriaPolice Department officer Ron Kirkwood fatally shooting Rauch in the back of the head with three rounds of what is supposed to be non-lethal ammunition.

According to Noyb, Meta is also requiring users who already opted out of #AItraining in 2024 to opt out again or forever lose their opportunity to keep their data out of Meta's models, as training data likely cannot be easily deleted. The United States Court of Appeals for DC has cleared the way for #Trump to fire members of the National #Labor Relations Board #NLRB & the Merit Systems Protection Board #MSPB, essentially granting Trump authority over formerly "independent" parts of the executive branch.

Judge Millet dissented saying the decision overturned #SCOTUS precedent & disabled the boards from functioning while the case proceeds.

The panel of 3 judges from the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit said the govt had met the “stringent requirements” for securing a stay while the court considers the #Trump admin’s appeal in the case.

The brief order had no noted dissents from the judges, who were appointed by presidents from both parties. It said a full opinion would be forthcoming.
