Some areas are "dark zones" for #cell coverage, she said. And some residents "have to drive to McDonald's to use their #WiFi. There are places that don't even have #internet coverage. I mean, you can't get it."
#Telehealth has its advantages, said Koskenoja, the emergency #medicine MD who previously worked for #PlannedParenthood in #Marquette, "but for a lot of #health problems, it's just not a safe or realistic way to take care of people."

I am syncing my #GrapheneOS #Pixel frequently with my notebook by opening a hotspot on the phone and using that #Wifi with #Syncthing. When I disable Wifi (not the hotspot) on the phone I end up somewhere between disappointing 0 and 20 MiB/s. When I enable the Wifi on the phone in addition to the hotspot, the speed goes reproducibly up to like 70-80 MiB/s.

Why?!

I've just spent half an hour fiddling with the internet connection. It dropped out so hotspotted from my phone to husband's laptop so he could finish watching something on iView. Internet came back. Ethernet and wifi working on my desktop. Wifi working on both phones. Could not connect husband's laptop. Reset adaptor, rebooted laptop, forgot network etc. Rebooted modem router. Nothing. Kept trying. Then it just worked. No idea why. Damn internet gremlins. 👾

"The US Senate today voted along party lines to kill a Federal Communications Commission program to distribute Wi-Fi hotspots to schoolchildren, with Democrats saying the Republican-led vote will make it harder for kids without reliable Internet access to complete their homework.

The Senate approved a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to nullify the hotspot rule, which was issued by the Federal Communications Commission in July 2024 under then-Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel. The program would be eliminated if the House version passes and President Trump signs the joint resolution of disapproval.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) announced the plan in January, saying the FCC program would "imped[e] parents' ability to decide what their kids see by subsidizing unsupervised access to inappropriate content." He also alleged that the hotspot program would shift control of Internet access from parents to schools and thus "heightens the risk of censoring kids' exposure to conservative viewpoints.""
