With the alarm clock waking the phone from suspend we still need to make sure the alarm sound is audible. We thus need it to have a volume level separate from e.g. media, notifications, calls, etc. This is possible with #wireplumber's "role based policy". There's a lot of lose ends to fix before this all can land but here's a quick demo in #phosh (the alarm sound your is played via #feedbackd which adds the necessary role):

#Linux audio is bizarrely confusing to a regular user lol - if I were to configure a #PulseAudio setting (i.e. clock.force-quantum) but obviously most systems now have moved to using #PipeWire, but from what I can tell or think to understand is that systems use PipeWire via something called #WirePlumber, should this (user-specific) configuration be done in a WirePlumber config, or PipeWire? I normally could learn these things easily through the #ArchWiki, but so far, this topic is completely lost on me lol.

Trying to figure out why my :debian: sid silenced the mic. It looks like a pipewire/wireplumber issue. If I switch my profile from "stereo input + stereo output" to "proaudio" in pavucontrol then set the default input to "pro 6" (see screenshots), internal mic is working. (but plugged-in not).

Any idea to identify the issue in order to report the bug against the faulty package (that’s why I use Sid in the first place)?

My brain is stuck in Alsa/ESD era ;-)

@m2m @7sleepersmusic 2/2 In my case, I use an #arch based operating system with #pipewire and #wireplumber (no JACK), #bitwigstudio, an RME Fireface UFX in #classcompliant mode, a Dangerous Audio Source, an AKAI MPK261, an Intech Audio EF44, a nOb Nob Control and a few other things (see amadeuspaulussen.com/info/gear) as well as a handful of native plugins (no yabridge) and it works absolutely fabulous for me. I really couldn't be happier. 🤓

wanted to go outside see the sunset but was took hooked by my amazement of #bluez, #wireplumber and #pipewire. Between two Linux devices, I can use all the fancy Bluetooth codecs - including duplex Opus, which means I can forward audio into both directions from one machine. Even better, I'm able to connect one computer to a Bluetooth headset and then forward the Audio via Bluetooth from another computer (basically nesting Bluetooth), but avoiding connecting multiple devices to the same headset.

#wireplumber 0.5.3 has been released \o/

As a reminder: #wireplumber is the session manager and therefore the "brain" of #PipeWire. The later is intentionally kept simple, not handling anything policy related.

The version has one fix I'm particular happy about:
Fixed camera device deduplication logic when the same device is available
through both V4L2 and libcamera, and the libcamera one groups multiple V4L2
devices together.
