#xmonad

This next week starts the winter vacations for me. Now I have two weeks to perform a functional programming training, in a new operative system and environment, NixOS and Xmonad tiling WM. It was a mind opening and learning experience, even I was choose it for the trends, I don't regret for it. But now I want to relearn and return to a tiling window manager, is time to say goodbye. Sayonara Arch Linux!

Anybody have Wayland-compatibile tiling compositor (WM) recommenddations? I'd been using #xmonad for years, but it doesn't work with Wayland. #KDE #Plasma with #bismuth was good for me, but Bismuth doesn't work with latest Plasma. I've really not found anything good with Gnome, and the options like #sway and #hyprland require a bunch of time to configure and don't do things like remembering what to do when I plug in different external monitors like KDE does. I appreciate KDE's automation.

@Riedler This is timely. I'd been using #xmonad for years, but it doesn't work well with Wayland. #KDE #Plasma with #bismuth was good for me, but Bismuth doesn't work with the latest KDE. Last change on the software side of my dev setup was to start using #PaperWM. It’s so awesome! It’s fast, smooth, has exactly what I need from a window manager, and it’s rock solid. In the past I’ve been using #awesomewm, #xmonad, #i3wm and while I liked them all better than classic floating WMs, only PaperWM feels exactly like what I always needed. And, on a 120hz display its quick animations look fantastic.

This account had been sitting empty for a year as I didn't have the spoons to restart on the fedi after my old instance went down so this will be my #introduction
I am very lazy so it will just be a list of hashtags c:
#autism #adhd #audhd #neurodivergent #disabled
#trans #queer #asexual #aroace
#tech #FOSS #solarpunk #libre #gamingonlinux #linux #xmonad

Since desktop environments can always change and many new releases came out since last year, I would like to know which desktop environment you currently use?

#gnome #kdeplasma #xfce4 #cinnamondesktop #matedesktop #budgiedesktop #lxqt #linuxdesktop #linux #freebsd #openbsd #netbsd #i3wm #bspwm #xmonad #dwm #fvwm #qtile #wayland #xorg

configuration question

does anyone know how to get #xmonad to sort windows on each workspace in the order of last use, (so Alt-Tab works as it should)?

a) cycling through windows in-order isn't efficient.

b) worse: focusing a floating window makes the background window switch. that's useless and annoying.

Okayyyy, new Instance, new fedi software, new #introduction!

I'm Schrottkatze, I'm a hacker catgirl from germany and I'm a rust programmer, a 3d artist. I used to do webdev things, I still do way too much, and because of that I also accidentally ended up being a design nerd, so ya that too. Basically anything with computers will get me interested.
I'm quite very passionate about digital rights, privacy, accessibility and free software as well.
Don't be disillusioned by me daily driving NixOS and Xmonad, I don't actually know much, if anything at all, about functional programming but... well, I try, okay?

anyway meow! :3

Now the boring part, the hashtags:

#rust #3dArtist #blender3d #MaterialMaker #nixos #webdev #design #xmonad

While I agree that is the case with a lot of applications, if you just look to #gnome or #kde software, their ui and ui are amazing.

I definitely fall into that simplicity crowd, using #xmonad as my de (I do that mostly because I wanted my desktop to conform exactly to my needs), but #foss does have some amazing UI's, its just that they're often nowhere near as polished for obvious reasons.

redoing my #introduction because I have more characters now.

I'm Oscar, a high school student from #Croydon in #London. I'm hoping to go to the #BritSchool to study #ProductionArts. I'm a proficient #Python programmer and Linux user (#XMonad ftw!)

I listen to lots of music. Bands/artists I like include #ManicStreetPreachers, #FleetFoxes, #Radiohead, #Blur, #Placebo, #Pulp, #Elbow, #TheHousemartins, #CarterUSM and many, many more.

I'm a #LibSoc, member of #LabourUK (worst £3 I ever spent), #Atheist, #ActuallyAutistic and #Achillean. AMAB but could care less.

I am also a minor, albeit one who has heard, seen and done some shit. "minors dni" dni.

happy to be here!
