So here are my thoughts on having completed #Duolingo #Japanese #日本語
1) People who say you "can't learn Japanese through Duolingo" are right, but you can't learn any language through any one app or course, full stop.
2) You will be exposed to a huge number of words and topics not covered in anime or manga.
3) Duolingo is EXCELLENT at teaching you hiragana and katakana when you're first starting.
4) Since Duolingo doesn't explain ANY grammar, you have to learn particles based on vibes alone.
