Why are any of these companies getting a dime of taxpayer money if they make tens of billions in profits every year? Explain it to me like I'm in kindergarden, meaning no BS about "markets".

@lin11c @Npars01 @davidaugust I’m not supporting it, just explaining it. I hate it.

Building a factory? The company gets incentive offers from multiple states, each wanting the jobs to be in their state. It says on the graphic that Nevada offered 1.3B to Tesla. NV thinks that if their citizens have jobs, then the govnr/legislators will get re-elected. Getting re-elected matters more than being fiscally responsible.

Taxpayers are buying their own job.

They get federal subsidies correct? Oil and gas have been getting them for decades? Why?

"How much does the US subsidize oil and gas?
It's not just the US: according to the International Energy Agency, fossil fuel handouts hit a global high of $1 trillion in 2022 – the same year Big Oil pulled in a record $4 trillion of income. In the United States, by some estimates taxpayers pay about $20 billion dollars every year to the fossil fuel industry. May 3, 2023"
