Koen Hufkens, PhD
Notes on starter packs: what I like about Mastodon (and previously on Twitter to some extent). I like the community building as an active process. That is, discovering people by reading hashtags and interacting with them (or hoping to learn from them). This is an active process, which runs counter to the parasocial influencer stuff you get elsewhere. In this context, people are free to follow, but not free to expect interactions with me if they are not constructive.

#mastodon #socialmedia

Bishop Greer Godsey
Facebook has launched an all out war in the #LGBT community and those who are religious but progressive. They removed post of mine a couple of months ago that was against the #deathpenalty. Now this one calling out LGBT abuse in their platform. My account is restricted from using groups and going live. I cannot reach out to anyone via messenger either. This is untenable.

Jim Flanagan
Goofing around a little on bsky this morning, just to see what’s going on. The UX is a hot mess. It conflates hashtags and feeds in a confusing way. They have NAILED the absolute uselessness of list feature just like mastodon.

One nice thing, you can tap a hashtag, and mute it immediately. So, if you want to follow a Cryptography feed, you don’t have to see #bitcoin or #blockchain tripe

mekka okereke :verified:
I said what I said about Mastodon moving too slowly to matter for the US midterms, so BlueSky being our best bet.

I said what I said about me being wrong about thinking that Mastodon would get it together by now.

I said what I said about BlueSky making it okay that Mastodon moves slower, and it not necessarily being over in the long run. We're watching people leave Twitter at a rate of 1 million a day. If BlueSky does go bad, and a better option is available, I anticipate a similar exit.

2/N
