I agree with Jonathan Weiler, and this is one reason I have shared some of the valuable commentary I'm reading about the failure of the DNC to permit a Palestinian-American voice to give public witness:

"I understand that many Democrats, desperate to see Trump defeated in November, a feeling I obviously share, just want the issue of Gaza and of Palestinian suffering to go away, at least until the election is over."

Jonathan’s Quality Kvetching Newsletter · The DNC should have allowed a Palestinian speaker to address the convention this weekBy Jonathan Weiler

"But in yet to be written histories, what is happening in Gaza now, the unrelenting killing of Palestinians and destruction of its society, the consequences of which will reverberate for generations, will be understood to be a monstrous crime that too few people spoke out against."

It was eye-opening to have someone claiming to support Kamala Harris respond to my thread of postings yesterday about this topic call me a liar.

That behavior militates in the worst way possible against a major theme of this DNC — namely, that Democrats need to maintain a wide tent that includes many types of different others, a tent in which we listen respectfully to others different from ourselves.

When you imagine you're making a moral argument by trying to shut down open discussion of moral issues others see differently, you've proven you understand nothing about morality.

@wdlindsy USA will be condemned as an accomplice in genocide, for generations.

@j_g_fitzgerald @wdlindsy
No more than we are condemned for VN or Iraq wbere we were the primary. The world has a short memory. That's why it keeps happening.
I just want it to stop.

@wdlindsy I am bewildered people look for excuses to justify a position that is untenable. When instead people should begin acknowledging the reality, start listening to Palestinian voices, and advocate for change.

Also, I maintain a hard line that smearing people is unacceptable behavior. I call it out when I see it; they have the burden of proof. Or I ignore it and save myself some time

@chrispomeroyhale Yes, this is how I see it, too. I instinctively recoil when people try to use coercion and bullying to shut down discussions of moral issues — as has happened over and over with the issue of abortion. And I truly, truly don't get the apparent belief of some folks on social media that they have a right to mount direct personal attacks against people they don't even know — and to call those folks allies!

@wdlindsy @chrispomeroyhale TWW: A truth cannot stand alone, it is always in response to deception. The danger that deception presents can be overt in its risk or subtle. *Generally I am very apolitical but did give this some thought. The end of which was that I suspect that the Gaza issue will be fully represented during campaign stops with those unheard voices given prominent positions to influence voters. There is always a path to Peace. OWOP

@OWOP @chrispomeroyhale I'm hoping you're right that the Gaza issue will be thoroughly addressed as the campaign unfolds, with the inclusion of those unheard voices. This is what I hope for, too.
