The parents of the unvaccinated 6-year-old girl in Texas who died of measles last month say they still do not encourage any parent to have children vaccinated. They maintain that getting measles builds the immune system and prevents cancer in future. They say that measles are not as bad as they're made out to be.

The Texas Tribune · Texas parents of child who died of measles urge others not to vaccinateThe couple, members of the Mennonite community in Gaines County, were interviewed by the anti-vaccination group Children Health Defense.

And their daughter who died? Well, this was God's will. Her time in this world was over and she's now better off.

The interview in which they made these statements was given to an anti-vaxxer group associated with Director of the Department of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

"These people are so committed to their beliefs that they literally lost their daughter and are still convinced that, somehow, the vaccine is worse. What is it that they think is worse than death? I get that they don’t want to feel responsible for their daughter’s death (which, let’s be clear — they absolutely are), but if that doesn’t convince them they are wrong, I’m not certain anything will."

Wonkette · 'Measles Are Good For You' Say Parents Whose Kid Died Because Of MeaslesBy Robyn Pennacchia

No, having measles does NOT protect anyone from cancer in the future. This is rank disinformation of the stupidest sort possible, and anyone peddling it needs to be held responsible for doing so and for believing arrant toxic nonsense that any informed and halfway intelligent person knows better than to believe.

@bytebro @xs4me2 @wdlindsy some parents change their view, sometimes it is only one of them, but accepting vaccines now is accepting their devastating error, but with that person officially distributing lies, it will not only influence US, as always they are for good or worse leading the pack

@Kaetchi

The bit that got me angry was that he did NOT accept his error. He doubled down on their choices, *despite* the death of his child. Total cretin.

@xs4me2 @wdlindsy

@bytebro @Kaetchi @wdlindsy

Exactly, we have these fundamentalist Christians also in our country and I always wonder why stuff like this is the will of God, but science that found a cure not. Freakin retards...

@Kaetchi @bytebro @wdlindsy

Thx, it was the reason I put it there, to make people think ;)

@bytebro @Kaetchi @xs4me2 @wdlindsy its impossible to understand, the parents will also have to answer the siblings once they have grown up and ask

@bytebro @xs4me2 @wdlindsy Maybe evolution is wrong? You would think stupidity would be naturally selected out? But no! It's proliferating FFS!

@WastelandWandrr

I admire your optimism, however, for example, did you ever actually read "1984"? Slavery is freedom, etc etc.

Evolution cannot ever be "wrong" - it simply adjusts the organisms around to most efficiently utilise the resources available.

(aside, please do not dignify these nut-jobs with the description "Christians". The brown-skinned, Aramaic-speaking individual of whom they are talking would likely have whipped them out of the temples where he apparently went to learn)

@xs4me2 @wdlindsy

@bytebro @wdlindsy

Seems the practice in the Trump administration... what is wrong with these people...?

@wdlindsy
I get your POV here, just curious what you would say to a parent who got their child a COVID vaccine and then watched their child die from it?

@wdlindsy

"The couple helpfully explained that the child’s death was actually the will of God, who they believe wanted to spare her from this terrible world. To be fair, I suppose he would not have had that opportunity had the girl been vaccinated, but if he were really committed to killing a six-year-old child, I’m sure he’d find a way."

@wdlindsy Vaccinating would have made the kid woke and death is better I guess.

@bhasic dude, that's crude but absolutely right.

@wdlindsy
They let their daughter die because they refused to get her vaccinated. It is their responsibility she died. Very sad and very stupid

@wdlindsy that's why they have so many, they can just keep the strong ones. The weakest - so what...
This is so fucking insane, but completely fits in their mindset.

@wdlindsy

The ignorance in this is gut-wrenching…

@xs4me2 @wdlindsy Some people have beliefs that ought to disqualify them as parents, or at least disqualify them from authority over a child’s health and welfare. I am enraged
when children are hurt by this level of ignorance. As a society, we simply must protect children, not only for themselves as people who need our protection, but as representatives of the future.

@meltedcheese @wdlindsy

Indeed, society and science was ahead of this, but now there is a conspiracy theorist in the lead and a megalomaniac retard at the rudder... no words...

@wdlindsy That’s a special kind of stupid.

@wdlindsy

If they terminated a pregnancy they would be going to jail...but here we are...

@wdlindsy

They are lucky to be alive to create children that they can kill.

They must have been vaxed as a child in order to carry out such cruelty.

@wdlindsy What's their daughter think about it?
