@wdlindsy As an academic (heterodox) economist who has done battle with mainstream economics for 4-decades, I have come to believe it is genetic... as in this part of the population, Bezos et al, including mainstream economists, are simply incapable (genetically wired) to see the public good. So, public interest... well, it does not exist. The brain is predisposed to arrogant self-interest, seeing only the private interest --- period.
