Example of masterfully written awkward moments:

In Starter Villain (by John Scalzi), there's a scene at the beginning where the MC tries to get a bank loan, which gets more and more awkward until they're talking about the wedding gift sent by his rich uncle . . .

Scalzi is the master of snarky dialogue, but this is less snarky and more, well, awkward. Intentionally so.

Yesterday I had a conversation with my spouse about our most awkward moments in life, and I realized...I seem to have many more awkward stories than most people. Some of them are so horrifyingly embarassing I had never spoken them out loud.

It felt good to let them go and laugh a little about it. Maybe a new #AwkwardMoments category for me here in 2024.
