The fire is estimated at 50 acres; no estimate on containment is available at this time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No evacuations are in place at this time, and structures are being protected. The public should avoid this area.

From NC Forest Service on FB: N.C. Forest Service personnel have completed an aerial forestland damage assessment in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The assessment is an estimate of damage to the timber resource. An estimated 822,000 acres of timberland received some level of damage during the storm, resulting in an estimated $214,000,000 of timber damage on all North Carolina forest lands. From Buncombe County Government on FB: A new Disaster Recovery Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is now open at Cane Creek Pool at 590 Lower Bush Creek Road in Fairview. This location is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A mobile disaster recovery center is at the Buncombe County Sports Park at 58 Apac Drive in Asheville open through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A Disaster Recovery Center is a readily accessible facility or mobile office where applicants may go for information about disaster assistance programs. It serves as the "face" of FEMA to many disaster survivors.

Call: D-SNAP Virtual Call Center at 1-844-453-1117 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday.

In-person: Buncombe County Health and Human Services at 40 Coxe Ave, Asheville, NC, 28801. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

While people are encouraged to apply in their county of residence, they can apply in any of the eligible counties.
