It looked like a ribbon, the strip of road cutting through the Southwest landscape, making a beeline toward the monolithic rocks and cliffs of Monument Valley.

"You've got to see, experience this place," the road seemed to say. "I'll take you right there, no detours. But if you want to stop for a minute and just view the vista from afar, I'll wait."

There were a lot of things I enjoyed about Venice, Italy, one of which was the laundry hanging out to dry, strung across from building to building.

It's so organic and natural to let sunshine and breeze do the job of a machine. Laundry is a reminder that people live here, doing ordinary, day to day things -- and that's kind of what life is.
