All Reds Grid!

Started with the First Rounder row and Reds are really all I remember, so easy enough. Pleased not to use Josh Hamilton; considered Duane Walker.

Astros row was easy enough. Lots of 1980s crossover when they were both NL West teams. Hatcher was a 1990 World Series hero.

Brewers. Ugh. Remembered Harper, checked Auerbach, cheated Clayton.

Cheers!

All Active Players Grid!

A new approach for me—active players. Surprisingly low scores. I even managed to get in a bit of Reds nonsense, with Eugenio and Reds # 1 draft pick Taylor Trammel (traded with Yasiel Puig so the Reds could get Trevor Baeur—ick!).

Anyway, I’d been feeling sick of the grid lately and decided to shake things up.

Shout: Willie Horton!

So busy sorting baseball cards, I almost forgot to do the Grid.

I’ll admit to double-checking Pat Clements. Thought Steve Finley was too obvious and Clements was my next thought. Weird.

Also double-checked Thorpe played CF, but was pretty sure.

Glad I remembered Orsulak; I couldn’t get Bobby Bonilla out of my head.

Shoutouts: Greg Maddux & Smoky Burgess.

4 Reds, 3 Negro Leaguers, Gaylord Perry, & Odell Jones! Solid!

Shoutouts: Jeff Conine, Bruce Chen, Jamie Moyer, B.J. Ryan, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Gregg Jefferies, Bill Stein, Wilson Redus, and Chris Sabo.

But NO shoutout to Anthony DeSclafani, who was a Giant and was traded to Seattle, but never actually played for Seattle. You almost got me!

Cheers!

Eight Hall of Famers and my favorite player.

Not my favorite categories; in fact, several of my least favorite—silver slugger, gold glove, rookie of year, 3000+ hits. Restrictive. Still, not a terrible grid.

Shoutouts: Minnie Miñoso, Vic Power, Leo Cardenas, Joey Votto, Johnny Edwards, Buck Leonard, Buck O’Neil, Mule Suttles, Branch Rickey, & Jackie Robinson.

Late in the day again. Nice grid, despite the Astros-ness of it. Tony Eusebio really was the first Astros catcher I could think of. Weird, but kind of love it. Didn’t do the obvious Reds nonsense of Eddie Taubensee or Alex Treviño.

Bobo, Moe, and Pop are useful old B&W favorites.

Carlos Lee was really too obvious, but eventually remembered Floyd Bannister.

Minimum of Reds nonsense today, just Bruce Berenyi and Bucky Walters.

Old favorites Maxwell and Lolich and Slim Jones.

Saw talk recently about how underrated Sid Fernandez was; the stat was cherry-picked, but the premise was true enough. (Only guy with at least 300 GS and less than 700 ER, sure, but he was at 300/696. Fun facts often lie.)

Shout: Frank Tanana!

The entire 300HR row is my Reds nonsense. So are Mat Latos and Reggie Jefferson (though he’s also Tallahassee nonsense).

Rico Carty is a favorite.

For Marlins, I was relieved to remember Cangelosi from the ‘97 Champions. Destrade was a big deal for the ‘93 expansion team—a Cuban-born slugger 1B who’d raked in Japan coming to Miami.

Cruz is an APBA memory: Cleveland in 79, Pirates in 81.

Pretty solid grid today with favorites like Tanana and Spike Owen. A little Reds nonsense with Perez, Martinez, and Norman.

Amused myself by using Andre Dawson but not as a Cub or Expo.

Instead of Dizzy Dean, I thought of using Lou Brock, but didn’t want to look at his stupid bright red Cardinal uniform; at least Dizzy is B&W.

Cheers!

Kal Daniels & Eric Davis together! Gary Redus & Larry Biitner are also my Reds nonsense.

Rautzhan & Rozema I remember from childhood. Maxwell was my dad’s favorite.

Icehouse Wilson only appeared as a pinch hitter in a single game, May 31, 1934 at St. Louis Browns P Ivy Andrews. He reached on E-6 by Ollie Bejma. Stranded at third. That was his career.

Shoutout to @seaks for the inspiration!

History major does history.

On May 4, 1871, the Ft. Wayne Kekiongas hosted the Cleveland Forest Cities in the 1st game of the 1st season of the National Association. Yes, the very first MLB game.

As hosts, Ft. Wayne took the field first and this was their starting 9. The first 9 to take a major league field.
