We found this articulated shell today, on a beach on Vancouver Island. Anyone know what it was? Maybe a marine isopod?

Ooh one of the millipedes molted! I can see the white husk down on the side of the terrarium. New pair of legs!

An isopod is already on it. The molt won't last a day, isopods LOVE to eat crunchy exoskeletons, and this biggish millipede skin is a huge score. This must have happened overnight.

The side of a terrarium where the vegetation is pushed up against the glass at the top, over a large section of soil. In the very center is a long segmented white husk of a millipede, recently shed. On the far left of the husk, a gray and white isopod can be seen, lifting its white antennae in the air like longhorns.

Nice variety out on the cucumber!

Two small white statues of kodama, looking into the center of the photo where a newly dropped slice of cucumber has been covered in different sized isopods. A small millipede is curled into a "C" on the bottom edge of the slice.

Two little isopods, Lirceus sp. They are not technically from a marsh they are from a spring, but the spring was rather tiny marsh-like so I am counting it.

Right now I am trying to get people to step up for our environment as the public comment period draws to a close on removing the National Environmental Policy Act. This will effectively destroy almost all environment protections in the United States. If you were worried they will destroy the National Parks for profit, rest assured this is the first step. By removing NEPA, they *will be able to*. Easily.

Please, go leave your comment (https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/02/25/2025-03014/removal-of-national-environmental-policy-act-implementing-regulations), call your senators and congress, and keep fighting for nature.

A nine segmented medium brown with lighter brown and tan patterning little critter with long antenna. It is an aquatic relative of the "rolly pollies" you have in your backyard. There is a smaller one under the larger one, just a younger one. It gives a parent and child vibe to the image, although that would be really unlikely to actually be the case.

A macro photograph of four woodlice on weathered wood. The isopods are arranged in a row and have a characteristic, segmented shell in brownish-metallic tones. Giant Isopods are an expensive food item in Vietnam. A new species was recently found and described. Official name Bathynomus vaderi (named after Darth Vader). In the bottom right of the picture, you can see the arms and hands of a person holding one up (to get a sense of the size).

Found this little dude hanging here on the top of a piece of crystal I dropped in the tank that they kinda love to check out.

Just chillin. Watching the dozens of teenty babies eat cucumber, no doubt. After I sewed the new top screen together, the airflow is keeping it temperate inside the terrarium. And they have been getting busy...
