Ever wonder why the
#Nazis went after the
#Jews ? Because there was over a millennia of history of blaming them for anything because of 2 very key factors. One being a diaspora(immigrants) their populations were always too low to have any real political impact, and two, because they were easy targets they kept to themselves keeping their heads down. Both of these ensured that your average person probably didn't know enough Jews to see them collectively as real people they empathized with.
This natural dehumanizing effect was perfect for those with power to vilify and make people fear and hate. Add to religious differences such as the fact that the church made the use of interest from loaning money as illegal but Jews were allowed to do so, so they were often doing better than their neighbors, and they now had a way to vilify them as greedy and evil.
Its the exact reason why under 3 Caesers, Christians were used as the perfect scapegoats most often by local authorities, because they were small in number, few people knew any personally and often kept their activities hidden for the exact same reason Jews kept their heads down.
for over 1000 years any time the people were getting too restless leaders could trot out the Jews as the cause of the problem and people could attack abuse, lot and kill them in pogroms. After enough time, rulers would give them some piece, let them grow to middle class status again and when they were needed trot them out again as the cause of all the nation's issues.
The Russian secret police invented "the protocols of the elders of Zion" out of whole cloth and spread it around the world creating the first "new world" order conspiracy theory that nearly every new conspiracy theory is mimicking.
The Nazis didn't just target the Jews, they targeted the Roma(Gypsies which is now an offensive term) who also kept to themselves, any minorities, as Germany was very heavily white German, immigrants from other European nations, and anyone who was LGBT, who were targeted for the exact same reason as the Jews were, they were a naturally small population and kept their heads down so people wouldn't view them as people they empathized with.
After WWII, being a Jew hater had a lot of bad press for good reason, so they targeted all the other people the Nazis targeted, minus the Jews at least openly. Minorities, LGBT, and immigrants. They used Jim crow, redlining and racist hiring practices to keep blacks poor and segregated from the average white majority.
They vilified immigrants, first when people came back from the war, Ike pushed a program literally called "operation wetback" where Mexicans that had legally immigrated to the the US to work while our troops were at the front line, and now there was a job shortage, the government did exactly what Trump is doing now, and just rounded up all people who even looked Mexican, including people of Mexican heritage here since Texas and California were part of Mexico as well as many native peoples, and trucked them to the border and dropped them off. After that they passed a lot of racist border laws to make what used to be a normal thing of crossing the border a crime and even then, it was just a low level misdemeanor. Literally every single border/immigration law we have is based in racism, first with the Chinese exclusion act, then with eugenics based immigration laws creating a hierarchy of better and worse races (Irish and many other southern and eastern Europeans were not considered white at the time, white was not about skin color but purity of blood). Then the Mexican border laws, specifically to remove their rights and allow white people to steal land from people of Mexican and native decent.
LGBT were always treated as lesser, though most of the laws against them were used to harass them or give cops a reason to arrest someone they didn't have any evidence against or fill their quota with. Then AIDS came along and a gay panic broke out, never mind that AIDS in Africa effected gay and straight people at the same ratio.
Once the primaries became open to the public, just out of random chance, the parties sorted over time into going two different extremes when it came to scapegoating. The Democrats became more anti-scapegoating temporarily blaming the actual people causing the problems, the powerful rich, and the GOP became the party of blame literally everyone the Nazis did minus the Jews.
This worked so well that the dems ended up losing by such an embarrassing rate in 3 election cycles(literally McGovern and Mondale only won 1 state and DC), they shifted to the 3rd way under Clinton opening up to wealthy donors which since people liked scapegoating so much, they let Reagan dismantle union other little people protections which created a repeating cycle of things getting worse, blame the scape goats, while stripping more protections, rinse and repeat.
And here we are. We have secret police grapping people off the streets and shipping them off to concentration camps in El Salvador with no legally required trial and if the court says the person must be returned, Trump can just shrug his shoulders and say, the El Salvadorian president wont let me, what you gonna do?
The new law in the spending bill now removes courts and congresses ability to enforce the law, which does thankfully have a workaround. States rights at this point is becoming the only checks and balances left, as judges are allowed to deputize people to do the job of Marshals if marshals aren't available. Blue states can assign cops or national guard members to be available to act as marshals, however this could cause a civil cold war between red states who will then force their national guard to support anything Trump wants and attack blue state marshals creating an us vs them between states.
This is where we are now, the minorities and marginalized are not you enemy. They work for cheap and make everything cheaper for you. They get vilified while companies who are allegedly taking the jobs from us and giving the jobs to them, get away with nothing more than a fine or slap on the wrist and in business a fine is just the cost of doing business so its a bribe to break the law.
But no, look at these other scary people with no power you may know only a handful of people from this group, fear them so you never realize that those with actual power are robbing you blind and pushing you closer and closer to poverty, fascism and feudalism on a daily basis.
