If Jason Isbell’s last few albums were a bit inconsistent — anxiety-ridden and tense — Foxes in the Snow makes up for them. It’s just Isbell, his guitar, and a mic. Isbell is too perceptive a songwriter and person to sling mud, but he seems fairly even-handed in apportioning blame. His songs about toughing things out and the tentative attempts at new starts hurt almost as much as fond recollections and grief.

So here's the thing. Jason Isbell tickets went on sale for the 2025 tour the other day. Love the band so I thought I'd pick up a couple of tickets. Same venue our symphony plays in.

STICKER SHOCK. $430.00 for a decent seat. No.

So I see the band is in #Kelowna on this tour. One third the ticket price. Floor seat Centre Eighth row. For the same amount as seeing the band in #Vancouver including accommodation and transport. And a weekend away.

Sometimes you just have to.

Asheville, in western North Carolina, is a music city, with welcoming crowds for every genre and new bands to discover everywhere you go. Andy Cush, a touring musician himself, writes for Hearing Things about how, when Hurricane Helene struck, musicians from across the country came together to raise funds via "Cardinals at the Window," a compilation album. “We asked friends, or friends of friends, and everyone was saying ‘yes’ really quickly," says Grayson Haver Currin, a music journalist who helped put the record together. "And when that starts happening, you just say, 'F*** it, I’ll ask this other person.' And that led to asking R.E.M. and Tyler Childers and Jason Isbell,” all of whom contributed songs.
