I don’t actually remember taking this photo, but I do know vaguely when it was taken, which is on the road from Casablanca to Marrakech. It was raining for much of the way and the landscape was incredibly bleak, with just scattered compounds like this here and there. We’d been stranded in Casablanca by an almost impossibly long flight delay which caused us to miss our connection, and with a meeting to make it to in the morning in Marrakech, and about half an hour of sleep, we convinced an airport taxi driver to take us to Marrakech. We didn’t speak any French or Arabic, so we communicated solely by him calling his son in Spain, me speaking to him in Spanish, then handing the phone back. The driver provided narration in French the whole time, and we did a lot of smiling and nodding. We paid him in a mixture of three currencies at the end, but he seemed happy.
